The deep blue hue of the kitchen island adds contemporary intrigue to the bright and traditional look of the surround room. Bamboo chairs with black and white seats and line the island bar. Pendant lights fixed between exposed ceiling beams hang over the simple fruit centerpiece display.
To give this warm, woodsy kitchen an energetic mid-century modern vibe, designer Magued Barsoum chose custom-colored cast concrete for the swoop of island countertop. Backsplash tiles in a similar turquoise tone create the perfect backdrop for a collection of richly hued ceramics.
The kitchen of HGTV Dream Home 2010 has major "wow" factor, thanks to the 16-foot-high wall of custom turquoise tile. The 11-foot-long island in a dark maple finish "grounds" the oversized space and provides for a family or a large gathering of friends.
When you have a large island, designers often use three pendants to fill the space. A pendant with mercury glass, for example, can add style to any kitchen, no matter whether you’re going for a retro look or an upscale Mediterranean-style beach cottage, like this home in Alys Beach, a coastal Florida community. This finish is available anywhere from $50 and up through home decor stores and retailers.
Four white leather bar chairs tuck under the shiny white countertop of the kitchen island for a spacious, eat-in area. The charcoal gray floor tile provides a pleasing color contrast to the bright white room. A turquoise tile backsplash peaks out below woodgrain cabinets for a pop of color in the modern design.
This contemporary kitchen is dramatically illuminated by the turquoise sandblasted glass pendants hanging from the vaulted wood-clad ceiling. The pendants' cool blue hue is carried throughout the otherwise neutral space, from the expansive kitchen island to accessories.
As seen on season 1 of Sarah Sees Potential, designer Sarah Richardson gives this open-concept kitchen a cheery cottage vibe with pops of turquoise on the upper cabinets and island. Rich dark hardwood floors, new stainless steel appliances and a unique textured backsplash complete the chic, contemporary look.
Smooth woodgrain cabinetry and island base showcase a beautiful, warm tone against the white walls and gray tile flooring. A skylight allows natural light to flood the space, keeping it bright and refreshing. Diamond-like pendant lights hang over the white countertop of the island and white leather bar chairs with stainless steel base and built-in foot rests. A turquoise backsplash adds a bright pop of color to the room.
White cabinetry surrounds a long wooden island that leads to the dining room in this open floor design. A beautiful dark wooden dining table is surrounded gorgeously bright blue upholstered chairs, complete with armchairs on each end. A metal chandelier hangs above for candlelight decor, and the curtain and simple centerpiece add to the blue accents.
For a family home in Houston, the designers of Laura U Interior Design created a comfortable seating area just off the kitchen. The team used color and accessories to create a cohesive look throughout the wide open area. “While the majority of the color palette is neutral, we weave a lively turquoise through each space: pillows and an area rug in the family, bar stool frames in the kitchen, and a show-stopping chandelier in the breakfast space,” they explain. “The entire space is further unified through the window treatments which are a combination of Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades and custom drapery with a turquoise band on the leading edge. A cheerful yellow and just a dash of orange set off the color scheme while touches of gold and a natural wood (teak root table and driftwood at the island) add eclectic charm.”
