Rich and luxe, this traditional living space uses contemporary elements -- such as the white chairs with hammered upholstery tacks -- to add an updated feel. Together with a vibrant zebra-print ottoman, bird painting and animal statues, the room feels rustic and alive.
Part of what makes this living room so visually interesting is the way that designer Veronica Solomon paired traditional elements, like crown molding and a stone fireplace, with more modern pieces, like the brown leather ottomans. Though different in style, their mutually neutral hues allow them to work well in the same space.
As sunlight pours into this sophisticated, modern living room, light is reflected of the white surfaces of the walls, cabinets and sofas to create a bright, light atmosphere. To give the space some color, designers added throw pillows to make the couches pop. The main feature in this living space, though, is the cushioned teal ottoman that mixes in a little traditional style with a modern twist. The ottoman not only functions as a cushy coffee table, it doubles as extra seating when the homeowners entertain.
Metallic-lined lamp shades and a glass coffee table add a hint of opulence to this sitting area. Layered throw pillows add color to a neutral contemporary sofa, while a tiger-print ottoman adds unexpected pattern and texture.
Filled with formal elegance and antique details, this bedroom features a four poster bed, armchair and ottoman and a pretty upholstered bench. A large Oriental rug in rich red pulls all the pieces together.
Comfortable armchairs in a soft floral pattern surround a nailhead trim ottoman to create a cozy sitting area. The stacked stone fireplace brings a rustic touch to the space, while abstract art adds a contemporary vibe.
A blue, white and green color palette gives this bedroom a vibrant personality. An elegant four-poster bed with coordinating drapes and bedskirt are more tropical counterpoints to the boxy armchair and ottoman.
An exposed brick fireplace fills one wall in this traditional living room that features two cream chairs, a matching ottoman and two paisley stools. Two framed paintings of autumnal outdoor scenes on the wall pick up on the color of the brick to further warm up the space.
The light hardwood flooring brightens this traditional living room with neutral sectional. A circular patterned ottoman and striped patterned rug add shape to the room while orange throw pillows provide a pop of color. The dark wooden entertainment contrasts against the neutral color scheme of the room. A modern fireplace is set in a brick section of the wall to complete the room.
Just off the living room, the homeowner had an adjacent, empty room that she wanted converted into a library, so designers created a space that blends perfectly with the living room. The center table in the living room doubles as a place to rest books, and she can bring the ottomans from the library into the when she needs extra seating.
Homeowners wanted a non-traditional design in this modern nursery that could grow with their son as he grows, so designers created this edgy space. The black and white color palette makes the space modern and unique, while the black sound waves running up the wall keep the space from feeling too babyish; however, the artwork from Shel Silverstein's classic children's book "Where the Sidewalk Ends" helps to bring nursery innocence to the space. To add the finishing touches, air ducts and pendant lights were exposed to give the space an edgier look and a reading nook was created as a comfortable place to foster learning throughout this little boy's life.
