Contemporary-style sofas, upholstered in durable Sunbrella fabric, feature aluminum frames and synthetic wicker bases — both recyclable. Two cube-shaped, industrial-style coffee tables were handcrafted from sustainable wood by carpenter David Brown. The yellow chairs provide a nice contrast against the black and white patterned pillows and add pops of color against the brick floor and accent landscaping wall.
When Tara first started sourcing changing tables, she found herself less drawn to those with overly youth-specific styles, instead leaning towards classic pieces with adult appeal. She opted for an ultra-white changing table/dresser as well as a graphic, round geometric mirror. Once Lily gets older, the pair of pieces can be used for many different purposes in different areas of the home.
When specifying upholstery for a beachfront house belonging to an active family, designers Betsy Burnham and Max Humphrey of Burnham Design opted to cover all the furniture in indoor-outdoor fabric. "Every piece is done in Sunbrella fabric — even the pillows and the custom area rug underneath. Outdoor fabric was the perfect choice for this room, which is "command central" for TV-watching and game playing.” And, they note, “In terms of the furniture plan, sometimes it’s dramatic to do fewer pieces and keep the scale large of each and bold; that’s the case here. We selected the largest sectional we could fit in the space and made sure it was super deep and comfy. We paired it with a large upholstered ottoman, which serves double duty as a coffee table and great place for everyone to kick up their feet.”
A custom library ladder is a fun accessory for the large shelving unit in this living room. The lime green pops nicely against the surrounding orange walls, and the room is unified with thick white trim. A tufted white sofa matches the trim, while wood tables blend with the hardwood floor. Midcentury-modern chairs with matching ottomans complete the space.
Neutral sofas with a nailhead trim and simple, sleek wood tables give a timeless and stylish look to this living room. Red-brown tones in the area rug add a warmth to the neutral color palette in the room. Bold throw pillows in bright orange, charcoal gray and a yellow and gray pattern bring pops of color to finish the space.
Owners of the Sacred Pepper wanted their main dining room to feel like a lounge, while still remaining elegant, so designers added serpentine banquettes to line the dining room and tables and chairs covered with rich, plush furniture in the center of the space. The luxuriousness of the materials in the space make this restaurant the perfect place to come when you want to enjoy a long meal with good friends.
A mix of patterns and textiles adds a playful touch to this white living room featured on HGTV's Buying and Selling. A plump white sofa and upholstered armchairs pair with two small tables to create the comfy sitting area.
What kid wouldn't love his or her own teepee! Striking and bright colors create a lively environment for this fort-among-forts. Benches double as tables and pillows also work as seats. Kids have easy access to books on a nearby shelf, keeping them organized and not underfoot. A door covered with erasable chalkboard paint provides space for drawing over and over again.
While the living room sofa is a striking shade of pink, the wood furnishings temper that pastel color. A close-up view of the coffee table showcases the wood elements that define so much of this home’s decor. The warm neutral is used in different shades throughout the home’s two stories, often layered in combination to give the space an even more warm, inviting feel.
The secret to a successful modern apartment is plenty of storage. The built-in cabinets stretch from the dining room to the living room to maximize storage and enhance both spaces. The recessed section on the living room side enlarges the space at seating level while creating end tables and a serving counter. Yellow and pale teal accent the seating area, and a zebra-print rug provides a statement piece.
With a fun, "bright pastel” theme for her holiday decor, Amy Weir of Delineate Your Dwelling got to work making mini bottle-brush trees into a magical holiday centerpiece!
“I believe you can incorporate the colors that make you most happy into all seasons, so I created the glitter trees in non-traditional colors for my holiday table,” Weir says. Stacked on a cake stand and detailed with fresh wood discs and jingle bells, these little trees are a big hit on the holiday scene.
"Well, why the hell not?" seems to be the motto of this small space. Even though the apartment only has a living room and a bedroom, the designers have fit much more life into the space. In the main living area, designated areas for a home office, a sitting area, a living room, a dining area and a wet bar have been established. The bedroom, although small, has made the most of its space with a slender dresser and hanging end table, and the entryway has been transformed into a makeshift mudroom. Who says you can't have it all?
This wallpaper was a game/room changer! A boring space was transformed with great texture when that went up. The rustic table and the tray and indigo African textiles we framed, give it a relaxed feel but the damask curtains make us a little Southern. African textiles and mud cloth from the flea market made great art and we made pillows in the leather chairs in the living room out of it too! These custom, casual and bohemian touches made all the difference!
The homeowners set out to refresh their 1960s ranch-style home with a clean, airy new vibe while still celebrating the home’s unique architectural style. A light, romantic atmosphere is evoked through the beautifully dressed canopy bed and cozy siting area, which pairs a soft linen sofa and nesting end tables.
Designer Jil Sonia McDonald mixes funky patterns with unique pieces to create comfortable and eclectic dining spaces. In this one, a wide window seat offers banquette seating in a dining nook. Remove the breakfast table and its the perfect spot to sit and read. A mix of throw pillows, in orange, white and solid green, and a bold orange bench cushion animate the space, while built-in drawers offer extra storage below. An orange and white chevron throw adds the finishing touch.
Large artwork makes a bold statement in the contemporary black-and-white living room. A gray shag rug grounds the space, bringing in texture, while a combination of sleek gray, white and black furniture make for a cozy seating area. Chunky wood coffee tables add warmth to the space.
