The stunning stone staircase serves as a focal point in this dynamic home. Open risers and a transparent glass balustrade make the staircase look and feel as if it's floating. A colorful display wall meets you as you descend, ensuring there's never a dull moment.
Red tone stone tiles continue from the staircase to the floor of this downstairs hall space. The warm wood finish of the arched doorways compliments the red tones of the tile. Stacked natural stones frame one door adding texture against the smooth neutral walls.
The scope of this project involved adding 1,217 square feet to an 87-year-old home to meet the needs of a growing family. The exterior was built to look original to the home and to complement the neighboring houses in the historic neighborhood. The addition has a seamless look by matching the home's existing brick but part of it was designed to look like an enclosed sleeping porch, a common characteristic of older homes in the neighborhood.
This luxurious, Mediterranean-inspired estate in Newport Coast, California, features more than 11,000 square feet of living space and loads of distinctive design details, including the hand-picked stones used both indoors and out. The home is also filled with interesting nooks and crannies, including the twisting stairway in an indoor chamber that leads to a wine cellar. The entertainment-ready house features an elevator, theater, pizza oven, and a pool and spa with an outdoor kitchen and cabana.
Making the most of the nook created by the staircase, a pair of cowhide benches combines with a low silver coffee table for a chic seating area. Pale wood posts and natural wood is used to create a beautiful staircase, which is highlighted by the exposed stone walls. A hanging chandelier brings a contemporary vibe to the space.
With domed ceilings and heavy wood beams, this elegant great room highlights the Gothic nature of Hume Castle. A stone staircase leads to the library on the second floor, while two arches below create a seamless transition to the patio.
Wood, metal and stone combine to create a rustic stairway. Woven bowls are hung along the wall, creating a striking art display. A stone tile floor grounds the space, while metal railings pair with thick wood steps for a staircase that blends contemporary and southwestern charm.
Tamara Hubinsky’s mission for this design was to create a hideout for the 9-year-old boy that would still accommodate him as he matured. The bookshelf stairs were custom designed to provide storage and utilize precious bedroom space. The stairs also add structure to the loft bed, which is important for kids’ rooms that are subject to lots of movement and heavy use. Small stair carpet treads (in a stone, riverbed pattern) add comfort and safety.
