Rich reds and browns and a mix of textures and fabric make a cozy, luxurious media room in this brownstone apartment. In a playful design move, a red velvet curtain glams up the wall above the television.
A contemporary star light is centered in this kid's bedroom for a fun contemporary touch to the design. Matching twin beds feature textured frames and striped throw blankets over the blue comforters. The powder blue color creates a light look throughout the room, with the striped floor rug adding complimentary shades to the color palette.
Natural wood beams frame the entrance to this large window nook. A tufted olive green cushion gives height to the space, finished with a decorative mix of patterned throw pillows complimenting the neutral tones of the room. A star pendant light adds a fun, contemporary element to the space.
Earth star (Cryptanthus fosterianus) has a devoted following among houseplant lovers. It’s a soil-dwelling bromeliad, happily at home in a well-drained potting mix. Provide bright indirect light for best leaf coloring. Like most bromeliads, plants die after flowering.
Since Christmas tree lights aren't illuminated all day and all night, consider a tree topper that will sparkle during the day. Pick up brass or metallic oversized stars and place them on top of the tree as a cluster. During the day, the sunlight will play up the metallic finish. At night, the metallic will appear warm when lit by twinkle lights.
Rather than searching for a ready-made star with the proper scale and proportion, create a customized wall hanging from wooden yardsticks, spray paint, twinkle lights and twigs. Get the step-by-step instructions.
This is one of my favorite master bedrooms of all time. It immediately reads as a luxury destination. This was the last space we designed in our original scope of work and I wanted everything we chose to have as much tactile appeal as it did visually. Wherever you land, you’ll sink down into lush velvets, silks, furs or mohair. The color palette is small but soothing, varying from dark chocolates to taupes with dashes of white to keep it crisp and reflect light. We used a faux silk wallcovering in the bedroom’s entry and on the bed wall, but conserved by using a perfect color-matched paint on the walls adjacent. I know it may seem a little indulgent but whenever you can, try adding fresh flowers or an orchid in your bedroom: instant hotel suite status!
“An outdoor reception doesn't mean you have to let go of elegant elements. We used a mix of bistro lights and candelabras, as well as hurricane lamps and smaller votive candles for this garden dinner. The lighting only became stronger after sunset, creating a truly elegant mix of candle light, bistro lights and the natural light of the moon and stars." - Planner Adam Donovan-Groves, of Donovan-Groves Events. Audrey Isaac, of 100 Candles, adds, "Tall, elegant candelabras towering over floral centerpieces create a dynamic feel to a table. Match the candlesticks to the floral vessel for maximum impact!"
