The landscaping of this Southwestern style home is designed to blend into the desert surroundings. The goal of designers and homeowners was to create an outdoor living space that blended into nature rather than disturbing it, so designers crafted an elegant landscape out of flagstone, landscaping stone and pea gravel-the colors of which bring out the deserts natural hues. Then, a few desert plants were place throughout the space to give this yard a splash of sustainable color that complements the desert environment of the home.
Leading to this Southwestern home's stucco facade, a flagstone pathway ushers guests through the landscaped yard. Benches line the path so that guests and homeowners can rest and admire the beauty of the desert plants and landscape that surrounds this home both in and outside the fence.
To enter the beautiful desert oasis in the front of this house, guests walk up a flagstone path lined with indigenous desert plants, connecting this landscape design with the home's natural surroundings.
Much of this home's grassy yard has been replaced with eco friendly flagstone that requires little maintenance and no water. Large stones help to define the feature, giving it a boundary and creating room for the indigenous, floral landscape.
These modern homes hope to reduce the impact of new constructions on the land which they inhabit, and part of that is using materials and plants that are eco-friendly. In this yard, designers have minimized the need for watering by replacing much of the home's grassy areas with limestone. In the small sections of grass, designer have planted indigenous plants that do not require extensive watering or additional irrigation.
