Make It: First, buy round or egg-shaped foam spheres and sisal rope. Next, unfurl the sisal rope, then wrap around the foam sphere, covering its surface completely by securing with hot glue. Lastly, hot-glue a loop of ribbon to the top of the sphere and hang on the tree.
In the dining room, formal elements combine with understated pieces for an unfussy elegance. A sisal rug and tabletop topiaries create an air of informality, while the traditional wainscoting and crystal chandelier strike a polished note.
Sisal rugs are versatile and known for their strength and durability, making them ideal for hard-working kitchens. "Merida nailed their collaboration with Ashe + Leandro, and as soon as I saw this design, I knew it would provide strong visual contrast and drama in such a narrow space. The deep charcoal color was bold enough to stand on its own against the kitchen's edgy wood and marble finishes, and the handwoven sisal and suede composition is ideal for all the traction that area will likely receive. Great design, great wear and tear, can't beat it," says Cortney Bishop of Cortney Bishop Design.
This traditional living room, designed by Alison Davin of jute, is a small space, but uses the room efficiently. The white walls make the room more airy and the sisal rug and leather chairs gives it a cozy feel.

A lacquered red dresser offers a bold pop of color against the neutral oak wall paneling and a place to store office supplies. An ultra-modern chair sits atop the sisal rug and plays off the geometric lines of the paneling with a triangular back and seat.
This blue entry hall features a lovely pairing of rustic and elegant design. A sisal-style hall rug protects strand-carbonized bamboo flooring from heavy foot traffic, while built-in bench seating is made more useful with underneath storage.
Choosing rugs for rooms with heavy traffic can be a daunting task. If you’re looking for something timeless and transitional that also packs a space with rich texture, consider a sisal area rug. Here, the faint flame stitch introduces pattern that’s not overwhelming, while the neutral greige hue balances the living room's vibrant cranberry walls.
This transitional living room features a vibrant red sofa decorated with blue and tan throw pillows. A square wood coffee table sits between a pair of blue and white upholstered armchairs and a tufted tan armchair, while a sisal rug covers the hardwood floors. Tan curtains and colorful artwork provide finishing touches.
