For the master bathroom of a 1870s row house in Brooklyn, NY, designer Lorraine Bonaventura designed a vanity in keeping with the home’s historic style. A vintage mirror hangs above the white-painted vanity, which Bonaventura fitted with polished nickel fixtures. “Five deep drawers provide enough storage for all the toiletries,” she says. “The four seagrass baskets hold towels.”
A soft, sand-colored loveseat echoes the rolling lines of sand dunes in this tropical meets eclectic living room. A piece of coral painted gold sits on a navy blue endtable with a seagrass basket beside it.
A framed vintage octopus print keeps watch over this white side table on which are a pair of delicate metal lamps and carefully preserved beach finds. Underneath the table, the texture of a seagrass basket provides contrasts to the gleam of smooth hardwood floors.
The springy greens and moody blues in this guest bedroom could easily become overpowering if not balanced properly. To keep the high energy hues in check tonally, accents of white were used including: the window trim in the adjacent powder room; the whitewashed basket pendant along the ceiling; the upholstery of the seagrass armchair cushions; and the linen slipcover of the sleeper sofa.
A creamy oversized chaise lounge is paired with a large tiered coffee table in the home theater of HGTV Dream Home 2010. Picture books, a red bucket brimming with apples and a basket of seagrass and foxtails create a compelling tablescape.
