This view shows how the open kitchen sits between the super-sleek fireplace area off the dining room and the living room in back of the home that offers a cozy and inviting space for entertaining and relaxing.
Imagine waking up to a tasty breakfast in this comfortable and fashionable dining room, a sunny spot that offers the chance to enjoy the natural beauty of this home’s Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, location.
The glass doors that separate the dining room from the screened-in porch outside give the space a nice indoor and outdoor feel. When the doors are open, it makes both of the shared spaces feel expansive.
The Carolina blue vertical-groove ceiling in the kitchen, dining room and great room adds a nice unexpected surprise and a soft touch of color that works well with the white walls. “Brian wanted to connect all those spaces together, so we made them all one color,” says build manager Scott Branscom.
Like the other main living spaces in this urban home, the dining room and fireplace area have a whitewashed wood floor with a low-gloss, low-maintenance style that creates a beautiful, fresh and clean look.
The stately stylings of this expansive kitchen mean meals around the island feel as grand as in many homes' dining rooms. Metal, lantern-like pendants and exposed wood beams give a hint of rustic charm to the otherwise white space.
Both the living room and dining room have a softened color scheme with the ceilings and walls painted the same shade of green-gray and window trim painted in a similar tone. "The trim is actually two shades darker, but when you see them together, they look like they're the same," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.
This side view of the architectural screen wall with the vertical slats of ebonized wood shows the dining room on the left side and the stairwell on the right. “It makes the space feel bigger,” says build manager Dan Faires.
Part of a new addition to the back of the home that includes the master bedroom and master bath above, the lounge-worthy living room is located just two steps down from the kitchen and open dining room. This nice-sized space with tons of windows offers an ideal spot for entertaining and relaxing while enjoying outdoor views.
Just off the dining room sits this sleek and sculptural modern fireplace area. “There’s not a lot going on but it’s on purpose,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “It’s a moment of pause as you enter this architecturally stunning house.”
A sculptural table and upholstered light gray chairs sit center stage in the inviting dining room, a stylish space with a tone-on-tone color scheme and inviting feel that encourages guests to pull up a seat and enjoy a meal.
A play on color and texture, lots of natural light and a strong connection with both the front and back of the home makes the dining room the ideal spot for enjoying all that the HGTV Urban Oasis 2018 has to offer.
The location of the dining room works well with the rest of the home’s modern floor plan. “I like that it’s just steps away from the butler’s pantry that leads straight to the kitchen,” says project manager Scott Branscom.
