Pool decking becomes the countertop as it flows into the pool house. A bench spans the width of the pool. The three arches house both screens and shutters. To deal with drainage into the building, there's a strip drain system along the perimeter of the floor. Water drains by gravity into the landscape on the north side of the pool house. The sunken design creates challenges but it unifies the pool and indoor areas seamlessly.
This client had purchased an old house and wanted to fully renovate the pool and make it a contemporary style. The classic and straight lines of the pool match the poolhouse. Van Kirk & Sons Pools and Spas won an Association of Pool & Spa Professionals International Award of Excellence for the project.
The poolhouse features a sunken design, which gives a different perspective of the landscape, as well as heightened connectivity between activities. The poolhouse has all the comforts of home: an outdoor TV, wood burning fireplace, bathroom/changing room, storage room, full fridge and a high-end kitchen with a martini sink. Storm shutters drop down with a push of a button to provide protection on a stormy night or keep the sun out in the late afternoon. The three main arches facing the pool have screens as well to block the sun and reduce wind.
The poolhouse offers luxuriously comfy features, including a high-end kitchen with a martini sink. Storm shutter doors tucked inside the arches drop down with a push of a button. The pool house was built only 2.5’ from the waters edge creating an unusual situation with a venial pool. To make sure the pool wall was properly supported, a newly constructed block wall supports that edge. The three main arches facing the pool hide screens and shutters to block the sun or wind.
