Black furnishings and men's-wear fabrics pop against walls painted a vibrant cranberry shade in the master bedroom of the HGTV Dream Home 2011. Turn-of-the-century walnut and poplar doors were stripped of paint and repurposed as pocket doors for the room.
A sleek white dining table and chairs create an artful dining space beneath sculptural metal chandeliers. A wall of windows with glass pocket doors leading to the deck allow for open-air views of stunning ocean sunsets.
The frosted pocket door creates privacy and adds to the contemporary look of the bathroom. A dark wood vanity with white countertop leads the way to a small mosaic tile floor. The bathroom continues to a vertical tiled wall in shades of gray.
Prior to the renovation, Chip had nicknamed the house "Pocket Door Paradise" because it had so many walls and small spaces, and a plethora of pocket doors. The remodel removed a number of walls, creating an open-concept living-dining area and kitchen. Though the pocket doors went away, Joanna did add a stylized sliding barn door separating the main living space from a kids' playroom.
A high-pitched roof gives a family starry views from the outdoor porch of a rustic lake home in Georgia. Builder Mike Hammersmith came up with the double-sided fireplace with steel pocket doors that slide behind it. On nice days, the pocket doors can open and connect the living room with the porch.
