Keeping in mind their love of kayaking and entertaining winery guests, Kim Lewis Designs fulfilled the clients' desire for an indoor/outdoor space. The porch features a place for the pooches! Built-in benches offer lounge seating, but space underneath is super valuable, so built-in dog beds were added.
Amy and Matt’s puppy, Rye, sits in repose in one of her favorite spots at home, the sofa. For Amy and Matt, the sofa's color is perfect, as dog hair easily blends in with the aesthetic. To create her peaceful, earthy look, Amy likes to blend textures in a neutral color palette and let the differences between textures bring out the variations in color. Here, a velvet sofa, a hemp rug and woven pouf all come together beautifully, with subtle color shifts and a mix of textures.
Below the newly painted ceiling, a comfy sectional anchors the family room alongside an oversized ottoman. Durable upholstery and a soft area rug withstand the general wear and tear of a pet-friendly home.
This pet-friendly mudroom features a space for cleaning wet pets, housing food and water dishes, and storing food, accessories, dog crates or litter boxes. "A large utility sink can be helpful for refilling dishes or cleaning muddy paws, as can towel bars or towel hooks," says Jeffrey S. Brown, president of J.S. Brown & Co.
Pet owners can make their walks much more efficient by outfitting their entry as a pet station. Here a shallow console table is used to keep framed photos of the family dog on display along with a crate to hold essentials neatly and within arm's reach.
Even the beloved dog was given priority in this room's plan! With her corner spot being owned by Tova, the client made sure nothing white got in her way. A treated bench with extra storage was added to the corner for her to enjoy.
The homeowners wanted stylish, kid and pet friendly spaces in which guests wouldn't be afraid to put their feet up, so designers merged natural textures with durable fabrics to create a great living room to fit the family's needs.

If you can't keep the pets off the furniture, opt for durable and neutral upholstery that hides pet hair. Here, a golden retriever enjoys a nap on the London sofa from R. Jones. An orange and green quilt adds a touch of country charm to the farmhouse living room.
