To help them achieve their goals, Chip and his crew knocked down several walls to open up the space. They kept the kitchen open by installing an oversized kitchen island to hold appliances and to help with storage concerns. The crew then added lots of seating for the family and inserted a homework station for the kids.

Candles, and plants offer multiple benifts as accessories to a room. Candles always add a feeling of brightness, warmth and color, especially if they are placed in colorful holders, or stained glass that reflects the colors. With plants and other organic natural materials, they also add color or become a design element, but even more so, they can really soften an area that is surrounded by hard cold materials such as wood, stone or granite. The Parkers wanted a relaxing place for their family to spend time, so Chip Wade and his team of designers from HGTV's hit show Elbow Room knocked down the walls that used to separate the Parkers' kitchen from their dining room. By doing that, he lost some storage space, so Chip added an over sized island to alleviate the storage issues. Then the team added a lush sofa, an armchair and an oversized ottoman so that all of the Parkers would fit comfortably in their new space.
