This traditional living room exudes luxury with an ornate floral-themed crystal chandelier beneath a lattice ceiling detail and a large gold-framed mirror above the fireplace that visually expands the space. The sitting area is perfectly arranged for an easy conversation by the fire or listening to someone perform a piano piece.
Three ornamental and ornate art installations hang on a brown wall in this traditional living room that includes a cream-colored sofa, red patterned and neutral striped pillows, a red and gold armchair, brown coffee table, sideboard, and end table. Red accents in the floral arrangement and floral artwork compliment the color scheme of the room.
Entertain in elegance with this formal living room, complete with ornate sage and blue sofas, built-in wood bookshelves and hearth, an exquisite oriental rug, custom drapery, and patterned ottoman. "The blue and green work together because they are analogous colors of similar intensity," says designer Cynthia Mason. For a more modern feel, deepen the intensity to kelly green and navy. Filtered through a thin gold curtain, this dining area is able to receive some natural light from the large living room windows. The screen divides the rooms without sacrificing the open floor plan. A dark dining table with an interesting glass top filled with rocks sits beneath a rectangular candle chandelier. The table, a stone bench seat and ornate wood dining chairs provide contrast to the light yellow wall and create an intimate dining area.
An arched, coffered ceiling adds rich architectural interest overhead in this decadent living space, part of The Beverly House, a luxurious Mediterranean-style home located at the heart of Beverly Hills. No surface in the space is unadorned, from the striped wall covering to the ornate wall mirrors to the stained glass panels that draw the eye through the long room to the window and grounds beyond. Multiple seating areas provide ample space for party guests to gather for conversation.
Through a colorful doorway and past a tastefully appointed parlor is a breathtaking living room. The dark stained floors, which run through the entire house, were laid by Julio, who taught himself the skills he needed to accomplish the job. The white masks that hang from the far wall are his creations as well. The masks offer a modern way to bring classic Angolan art home. The ornate fireplace, one of four hearths this home boasts, is original to the space, as is the decorative scrollwork that runs across moldings and ceilings in this room. The way that Kenza and Julio have maintained the architecture of the home, is a reminder not to remove or cover up original fixtures, but to instead accentuate them. Filling a traditional space with modern furnishings creates a unique contrast of styles that can add layers of sophistication to a room.
