As seen on HGTV's Good Bones, the new dining room features modern furnishings and a black and white patterned rug. On the wall are framed animal prints. These prints are sections of the home's original wallpaper that Karen salvaged, framed and incorporated into the space.
Opposite the mirror vignette, a gallery wall of framed art, including prints from Georgia O’Keeffe alongside some of Matthew’s photography work, sits above a beautiful vintage credenza. As a DIY moment, Amy added brass knobs to the honey wood credenza. Changing the knobs is one of her favorite secrets for transforming vintage pieces for a modern space.
If you have a collection of treasured pieces and vintage furniture, an excellent way to help showcase the pieces' texture and charm is to pair them against bright white walls. Since the original mid-century modern ceilings of the space are meant to be the room's main focal point, the pure white walls help enhance this feature rather than detract from it.
Children's bathrooms offer a chance for parents to throw out most decorating rules, instead trying something different and fun. Rather than adding one featured piece of art, the entire bathroom including its doors are covered with original pieces. The key to creating a whimsical look is to mix framed art with unstructured pieces as well as random objects, resulting in a saloon-style wall grouping.
Through a colorful doorway and past a tastefully appointed parlor is a breathtaking living room. The dark stained floors, which run through the entire house, were laid by Julio, who taught himself the skills he needed to accomplish the job. The white masks that hang from the far wall are his creations as well. The masks offer a modern way to bring classic Angolan art home. The ornate fireplace, one of four hearths this home boasts, is original to the space, as is the decorative scrollwork that runs across moldings and ceilings in this room. The way that Kenza and Julio have maintained the architecture of the home, is a reminder not to remove or cover up original fixtures, but to instead accentuate them. Filling a traditional space with modern furnishings creates a unique contrast of styles that can add layers of sophistication to a room.
While mattes are an important element of framing original art, they're not always necessary for dressing up children's pieces. To ensure the intended effect of children's drawings or paintings is achieved, remove matte inserts to keep the full surface of each piece showcased properly.
An eight foot by four foot Celery Jones original art installation dominates the back wall of this converted garage. Using tones of white cognac, mustard yellow and deep hunter green, the painting evokes a Midcentury Modern vibe and anchors the lounge area of the room.

This unique space -- an entomology studio -- was designed as a workspace to create original works of art, and also to showcase personal collections. By keeping the walls white and the furniture simple, the homeowner can display multiple items without the space ever looking cluttered.
As seen on season one of Sarah Sees Potential, chic turquoise dining chairs were picked to match an original wall mural Sarah had commissioned for this open plan kitchen, living and dining room. The art adds color and interest to the overall neutral space and serves as a focal point in the linear room design.
Originally built in 1901, this historic building was purchased by country singer, Miranda Lambert, and renovated into a boutique bed and breakfast. Efforts were made to salvage much of the original millwork and plaster, the entire building was rewired, and central heat and air was installed. Where the original building could not be salvaged, sheet rock was hung where original plaster walls had been, and walls and ceilings were filled out with wood. To preserve as much of the original building as possible, most of the work had to be done in the attic as well as crawl spaces between each floor.
This contemporary living room is accented with a splash of orange wall color and throw pillows. The custom wall treatment above the fireplace is metallic paint on board. Adding a single piece of original artwork is always a great way to start (or complete) a room design, and can take a family room from basic to stunning in the time it takes you to hang a picture. To highlight the unique artwork, keep other wall art to a minimum, and paint the walls white or another neutral hue to provide a backdrop for the art.
