Originally a closed staircase but now entirely open, this renovated foyer allows a view of two floors, and its high ceiling is enhanced by warm hardwood floors, geometric light fixtures and modern doors, inventing a truly dramatic and airy-like entrance to a contemporary home.
To create a more open space, designers knocked out the wall leading down the stairs, creating a full view of the basement from the staircase. This allows the basement to feel more open and gives a clear line of sight from one end of the room to the other.
Decorative modern lighting adds a splash of contemporary to this rustic mountain retreat. Wood and metal mix together for a nature-inspired staircase, while exposed stone and wood add organic texture to the space. At the bottom of the stairs is a pair of cowhide benches for seating.
An open wall staircase gives an open look to this living room design. White walls and stairs keep the room bright and allow the green was to pop as an accent color. The dark floor creates a pleasing contrast to the white walls and grounds the design. Throw pillows on the sofa compliment the accent wall to finish the look.
The space adjacent to the kitchen, which had been the back exterior of the house, is opened up to make room for a dramatic staircase, with custom open-metal railing, leading to the upstairs of the new addition.
A wood floor at the top of the staircase adds warmth to the decorative gray and white walls and ceiling. As the stairs turn, an accent wall is wallpapered with a charcoal gray design allowing it to stand out subtly from the surrounding walls. A deep tray ceiling features white frame designs and surrounds a lampshade chandelier with crystal center.
Black framework supports the open staircase design. Wrought iron railing compliments the black frame and the unique curvature of the rods add natural decoration to the minimalist design. Wood steps feature sharp lines while the wood handrail is rounded for a softer finish.
Wood steps fixed over a black base creates a simple, sleek look for this staircase. Black balusters connect thick wire railing for an open, modern design. A bar cart stationed near the stairs organizes drink ingredients and accessories for easy access.
Thick wood posts support the handrail lining the staircase in this open foyer. Traditional white wainscoting carries from the foyer up the staircase. A gold buffet is tucked into a nook on the first floor, adding a beautiful gold accent and stylish storage space.
The open metal and wood staircase is designed to allow light to filter down and through various floors. Also, the openness creates the illusion of space. The orange color is the same paint color used on the nearby Golden Gate Bridge. The same color is used on the front door and accent tile in the kitchen. The spectacular openness "pulls" visitors toward the stairs and up into the great room upstairs.
