Fixer Upper hosts Joanna and Chip Gaines transformed this living room by opening up the space, creating a better flow into the dining room. By moving the air conditioner to the attic they were able to open up the hallway behind the wall and move the door from the dining area to the living room. The original hardwood floors were kept and refinished, and a window in the dining room was replaced with French doors.
Joanna and Chip Gaines have transformed the living room by removing the support header and opening up the space, creating a better flow into the dining room. By moving the air conditioner to the attic, they were able to open up the hallway behind the wall and move the door from the dining area to the living room. The original hardwood floors were kept and refinished, and a window in the dining room was replaced with French doors. The walls were painted a neutral medium gray with white trim and ceilings.
From inside the new living room you get a spectacular open view of the adjoining patio/courtyard. Notice the folding door system by Nanawall on the far right which allows you to close the open living room when weather in unfavorable.
Hardwood flooring connects the dining room with the kitchen in this open-plan living space. A hardwood table is on one side of the space, surrounded by six white wood chairs. A white vase filled with flowers is displayed in the middle of the dining room table.
The kitchen had a four foot hallway from the foyer to the garage on the right side which was removed to accommodate a full refrigerator and freezer and also open up adequate space to fit two 100” islands.
Enamored with contemporary design, the shell of a single-family ranch was renovated to be the home of their dreams. Living by the water, the design was harmonious with a vision of crisp horizontal lines, a consistent design feature carried through the exterior to the interior. An open floor plan focuses on comfort and luxurious essentials.
Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines removed the wall between the Purks' kitchen and dining room to create a more open concept feel. They installed a natural wood support beam in it's place. The appliances were replaced and moved to the other side of the room- a new washer and dryer is now located in the laundry room. All new white cabinets and black marble countertops bring a modern look to the kitchen, and two hanging globe light fixtures illuminate the breakfast bar.
