Beautiful decking creates a durable path that leads to the modern shaded outdoor dining room. Creating individual spaces in the backyard with visual markers like the shaded pergola enhance the design and create unique zones that make it easy to enjoy every inch of this inviting outdoor oasis.
Anthony and John, from HGTV's hit show Cousins on Call, have turned this back balcony into a perfect mountain oasis. With a hammock for reading and a hot tub for relaxing, this space has something for everyone-not to mention the beautiful mountain view.
This urban bungalow leads out to a welcoming, contemporary backyard. The covered patio area has a picnic table and benches for dining outside, while a gravel patio defines the cool blue fireplace and sleek armchairs.
Woven armchairs overlook the sleek swimming pool, which is surrounded by a streamlined patio. Contemporary lounge chairs and oversized armchairs provide the perfect spots to relax, while a funky sculpture adds a touch of color to the space.
When designer, Michelle Rohrer-Lauer, was presented with the opportunity to curate the interior and exterior of this Texas home, she knew exactly how to make the pool area just as relaxing and calming as the living room. By adding warmly lit, hanging lights, custom outdoor seating, and by consulting on the infinity-edged pool, Michelle turned this back yard into a comfortable, yet palatial outdoor space.
When the homeowner, a professional artist, moved into this home, the backyard space was visually unappealing and dysfunctional, so designers gave the yard a new look, maximizing the small space with sectional seating areas on both the hardscape and desert lounge areas, giving the homeowner a blank canvas to foster her creative inspiration.
Unique to this backyard design was the 3.5’ wide by 17’ long water feature. Stainless steel insets were specially fabricated which then filled and tested for leaks at the yard. Any pin holes found were welded on site to ensure a water-tight container. The stainless steel container was then carefully transported to the job site and installed. The stone coping around the perimeter was mortared down to help keep the water feature in place as well as provide a seat wall.
The long and narrow backyard is divided into separate living areas, making the most of its limited space. A walkway connects the outdoor room to the fire pit lounge and elevated hot tub. A purple fence and lush landscaping color it a private retreat.
All interior designers have the same dream. They dream of a space that is completely their own where they can express their unique style free from the constraints of client expectations or even the needs of their own daily lives. Not only has New York designer Megan Pflug (http://meganpflugdesigns.com/) realized that dream, but she’s sharing it with all of us. The Woodhouse Lodge (https://www.thewoodhouselodge.com/), Pflug’s new 10-room bed and breakfast in the heart of the Catskills in New York State is the perfect blend of rustic ambiance and big-city style.
