The Durham is a downtown boutique hotel located in what was once a Home Savings Bank branch. The hotel’s design team, Commune, has maintained the structure’s midcentury modern architectural integrity, preserving the original exterior façade.
With a custom copper gate and palm trees out front, this two-story home in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. makes a great first impression. Thanks to its sturdy, contemporary design which has been carefully reinforced by steel beams, the sleek structure can survive tropical storms and the elements.
At the back entrance of the home, designers created a mudroom for the family with space for hanging purses and coats as well as storage for shoes and other supplies. The space is anchored in a gray color palette that hides dirt and, with the tile floor, is easy to clean.
