Originally, this historic home's backyard contained a swimming pool that was damaged beyond repair, so after filling in the pool, homeowners wanted a fresh, new look. Designers helped the homeowners come up with a color concept, and began work on their New Modern design by defining entertainment spaces. In one corner, a custom barbecue pit with a concrete island makes the space perfect for grilling. In another, an intimate conversation corner welcomes guests. A putting green is the focal point of the space, but the central living space is this elegant sitting area created from sustainable furniture that matches the couple's eco-friendly lifestyle.
A variety of paving materials, including limestone, ipe wood and blue beach stones, were used to fill the ground space in this New York City backyard, adding a sense of serenity and flow to an otherwise small and elongated area.
In their New York offices, Pereira & O'Dell have made the most of their limited space. To the left, individual work stations for staffers are lined up in front of the conference room that is set apart by glass paneled walls, aiding in the modern feel of the space. In the back of the space, a kitchenette, complete with tables and chairs for the staffers to enjoy their lunches, is nestled to provide a space for preparation and storage of food.

Previously, the eat-in portion of this kitchen contained and old, outdated breakfast nook with banquettes. The homeowners loved this unique addition to their space, but it was in desperate need of updating, so designers scaled back the walls to create a larger space for the nook, then they modernized it with a bright wall color, silver leather covering on the banquettes, a modern table and a red, modern chandelier to match the walls. To help light the space, designers added double hung windows to let in plenty of natural light, making the space, bright, warm and inviting.
Fully white surroundings keep this cozy country kitchen looking extra bright. Rows of decorative tile and lantern pendants add touches of personality to the design while blue patterned chairs in the attached dining space contribute soft color.
This newly renovated living room use to have an old non-functioning fireplace that has been replace with a large wall organizer and an electric fire screen. Updated wall colors, a modern couch with ottoman, and new lighting create a new living space. The wall dividing the living room and the hallway has been partially opened, as well as the archway between the living and dining rooms, creating a more open flow to the first floor.
As seen on HGTV's Good Bones, Mina and Karen created a functional, inviting outdoor space by building a deck onto the back of this newly residinged home.
