Mismatched stripes work together here with classic navy balancing out the bolder red and light blue color scheme in the bed skirt and bolster pillows. Plants reside in woven hanging baskets to add visual interest and texture.
In Chris' bedroom, a mix of high and low created his designer bed ensemble. A custom bed upholstered in automotive vinyl was the area's biggest purchase; however, deceptively budget-friendly purchases were made for the remainder of the space. The demilune-shaped chests came from ZGallerie for $600 each, and not only do they add an elegant touch, they offer concealed storage. Table lamps atop the chests were found at a flea market and updated with red paint and new metallic drum shades. While Ralph Lauren bedding in a classic paisley print was a splurge, custom pillows made from $6.99 per yard IKEA tartan fabric kept the budget in check. To allow Chris to easily change up the looks of his bedding, the backs of each pillow were covered in a nautical print from Duralee.
This nautical-themed guest suite is tucked into a turret, its walls painted a sunny yellow. The ruched headboard and curtains are in an Old World Weavers toile. Raffia shades top a pair of simple floor lamps, while an antique sailing ship diorama above the window continues the theme of the sea.
This navy blue kids' bedroom features a sports-adventure theme with a twist of nautical flair. The three-drawer dresser was adorned with a relief stencil of a schooner. Above the dresser, world globes, more sailboats and a framed vintage advertisement for a ski trip add to the travel and adventure style.
Polished yet fun, the guest bedroom displays a classic nautical theme with a modern twist. Blue and orange hues, as well as geometric shapes, are repeated in the wool rug and bedding, while vaulted bead board ceilings and floor-to-ceiling drapery expand the space for an open and airy feel.
