In the design of this home's yard, designers installed a statue inspired by Native American artwork, helping to connect the home to the culture of the land. Highlighting the statue are a few indigenous, flowering plants, adding color to the space, but not requiring much water, keeping the yard sustainable and eco friendly.
This contemporary living space features a mix of several styles that work together to bring a unique and timeless character to this contemporary home. Deep earth tones, layered textures and relaxed furnishings soften the crisp white and charcoal framework and reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding harbor. Native American art serves as a dramatic focal point against the backdrop of a deep-hued wall of built-in storage.
A happy tablescape pays tribute to the sunny Southwest location of HGTV Dream Home 2010 with a bowl of chili peppers, Southwest art picture books and antique Native American baskets. “I always start out and keep taking things away and adding things until I feel like I have it right,” says designer Linda Woodrum.
Soft yet strong, this family room combines elements of country living with a modern twist. The focal point of the room is the large folk art painting of Native American women that ties in with the dark woodwork of the room and its brick fireplace surround. Otherwise, the room features comfortable, cozy furniture with a more delicate color palette of green, blue and beige.
