This breakfast area is a cheerful mix of patterns: Bernhardt dining chairs with a graphic back and nailhead trim surround a round Coddington-designed walnut table. A silver leaf iron pendant, roman shades and a Moroccan-print accent rug complete the space. The artwork in the adjoining living room is by Monika Steiner.
Commanding and masculine, this bedroom's outstanding feature is its accent wall, which is papered in horizontal and vertical stripe patterns. A sturdy bed with hammered upholstery feels lush and stately, while assorted throw pillows in mixed materials and tones soften the space. The zebra-print rug adds pizzaz to the formal-feeling room.
For a sophisticated look with a fun edge, a subtle color palette meets a bold mix of patterns. A striped sofa and ottoman look fantastic alongside a feather-printed throw pillow and subtle chevron curtains. A world map floor only adds to the quirky charm of this stylish space.
Dark gray walls pair with and amber-colored ceiling, creating a comfortable, masculine living room. An eclectic mix of furniture, from the orange suede sofa to the leopard-printed armchairs, make a cozy conversation area. A built-in bar is perfect for entertaining, while a southwestern-inspired area rug grounds the space.
HGTV's Design on Dime transformed this living room into a modern Americana masterpiece with a mix of vintage pieces and relaxed furniture. An old trunk functions as a coffee table, while floor lamps and a tall houseplant add dimension to the space. A sprinkling of details complete the look: printed throw pillows, terrariums and bold artwork.
When a spare bedroom needed to quickly be turned into a nursery fit for a little modern princess, all it took was the perfect mix of contemporary, sweet and playful. The animal print wallpaper adds fun to the space while the simple furnishings like the round mirror and white dresser add some balance.
Yard sale and thrift shop treasures give this eclectic living room a playful "collected over time" look. The entire room cost well under $1,500. Mixing vintage, contemporary, and traditional pieces with animal print and coral red accents feels fresh. A full wall of windows makes the room seem spacious.
Set the tone (and color palette) for the party with this adorable gingerbread house invitation. Tiffany employs a playful color palette with a mix of sleek, midcentury pieces and more contemporary ones for this HGTV Star makeover. She pairs the slab-style dining table with bright, mismatched chairs. The coordinated gallery wall features pop art prints designed by Palm Springs artists.
"I don't know what my home style is" says Steele. "I like fun and different and colorful." Her study in the front of the house is defined by her eclectic sense of style, with wood paneling brought into the 21st century with chic black paint and a mix of colorful pillows, leopard print and a few hot pink items illustrating Jamie's love of color.
A photography grid adorns one wall of the guest bedroom with a rural southern motif. “I like every house to have a mix of different mediums and that’s where photography comes in,” says interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “Anytime I am showcasing photography I like to stick with odd numbers so I picked up nine different prints and put them together in a grid pattern.”
This living space is full of life and color with a pink and green color palette. Floral accent chairs flank a sleek fireplace, while a neutral area rug and printed throw pillows add more pattern to the mix. An acrylic side table and framed photo above the mantel give the room a fresh, updated look. The living room opens up in to a formal dining room complete with a decorative mirror and chandelier.
Just a few steps through the front door and the space opens up into this expansive dining room. Part of the effortless charm of this home comes from original details such as historic moldings. The cool white of the walls and the warm wood tone of the floor create a stark backdrop that give the room’s other colors and elements ample room to shine. The dining room is a mix of rustic and industrial elements. To add some color to the mix, a large red print, left by the home’s previous tenant adds a pop of color to the neutral decor.
The client wanted a room that reflected their boy's name, "Jonah" without being literal. This nursery is a perfect example of how a room can rock a theme and stay sophisticated, timeless and relevant. Tricks of the Trade:
1. How to Balance a Bold Pattern: Make sure your colors have a weight to it that can hold up to the bold pattern. Designer Karen Wolf used bright mid tones to balance the whales and also showcase them.
2. Pattern Mixes: The dense wallpaper was mixed with a small window treatment print and open graphic with white field on the floor.
In Chris' bedroom, a mix of high and low created his designer bed ensemble. A custom bed upholstered in automotive vinyl was the area's biggest purchase; however, deceptively budget-friendly purchases were made for the remainder of the space. The demilune-shaped chests came from ZGallerie for $600 each, and not only do they add an elegant touch, they offer concealed storage. Table lamps atop the chests were found at a flea market and updated with red paint and new metallic drum shades. While Ralph Lauren bedding in a classic paisley print was a splurge, custom pillows made from $6.99 per yard IKEA tartan fabric kept the budget in check. To allow Chris to easily change up the looks of his bedding, the backs of each pillow were covered in a nautical print from Duralee.
This blue and green cottage boys room features a hand hewn-wood ceiling and vintage gaslight style lamp for a rustic feel. A botanical pattern window treatment adds a contemporary, light touch to the space while the green and white patterned chair brings a grown up warmth and provides a nice contrast to the playful wall prints and vintage toy accessories. Traditional floor and table lamps complement the mix of traditional and cottage style furniture.
A fresh minty green called "Restful" (SW 6458) from the HGTV Home paint collection by Sherwin-Williams evokes an airy coastal feeling in this bright sunroom. The table coated in "Rapture Blue" (SW 6773) draws the eye further into the space. Botanical prints hang on the paneled walls, lending to this coastal cottage feel. An eclectic mix of wicker and traditional furniture in whites, neutrals, and blues sets the tone for the casual space. White curtains allow for plenty of natural light and a white throw rug over hardwood flooring anchors the room.
As rough-hewn and industrial as some loft spaces can be, there’s still ample opportunity to introduce spaces rich in refined style, as designer Hannah Crowell did in this eclectic dining room. “This was a new build that I wanted to give depth and character, so I chose a charcoal grey that pulled a slight bit of purple. I wanted to mix modern pieces (the Wegner chairs) with a farm table and Bryan Nash Gill prints. The Patterson Flynn and Martin rug was custom and took us 6 months to make but it pulled everything together perfectly.”
