Down the hall, three large portraits of Disney princesses give the walls an unexpected dose of color. When set against the polka dot wallpaper, these colorful canvases transform the space into a working art gallery.
Designer Amy Elbaum selected artwork for this renovation that would complement yet contrast with the more traditional furnishings in the room. For example, the large glass-enclosed photograph that hangs above the velvet sofa creates a dimensional pull by setting a complex, industrial design against the white walls and solid color of the furniture. It creates a wonderful marrying of design styles.
One of the beautiful features of this stylish home: its artwork. Here, a large modern painting is showcased in the hallway. Inside the study, another piece is highlighted above the lovely vintage piano.
Audrey Hepburn herself might fall in love with this large bedroom designed for a savvy, stylish teenager. The space echoes old Hollywood glamor, featuring vintage bedside tables and touches of gold throughout the room. White bedding keeps the area feeling clean and fresh, while purpley-red chairs and accents add a punch to the otherwise-neutral space.
Deep pumpkin-hued walls invoke creativity in this project room with plenty of counter space, plus cubbies for sewing or scrapbooking. Two nooks (with built-in desks) and a large project table provide room for everyone in the family to have their own personal workspace. An enormous corkboard over one of the desks offers a place to pin up ideas, works in progress, or favorite family photos.
Double vanities span the wall in this large master bath. The bathroom is classically white, with pops of color added through tasteful accessories and artwork. An organic-looking pouf provides a place to sit at the vanity-height countertop.
A bold and gorgeous mirror can be the focal point of a room. Designer Andreas Charalambous of FORMA Design uses this extra-large mirror to "reflect the light from the balcony below and to serve as a last-minute check point as the owners head out to work," he says. "The mirror itself becomes the artwork in this minimal set up." Even a large wall mirror can bring simplicity to a space if used correctly.
This contemporary bathroom features a large soaking bathtub for ultimate relaxation. Beige tile floors extend halfway up the walls, making the serene space feel cohesive. Modern artwork illuminated by a skylight adds visual interest to the space while the house plant brings a touch of nature.
A bold shade of red, this traditional dining room boasts a tray ceiling that draws the eye upward. Neutral chairs surround a dark wood dining table to keep the space from appearing to loud and busy. A large piece of artwork centers the room, complementing the deep red walls and adding another dose of color.
On the wall opposite the Ultra Kraft cabinets, four large canvases come together to create a black-and-white photograph of sheep. When paired with the reclaimed wood ceiling, this art instantly adds some country-esque personality to the space.
White walls and floors set the perfect stage for playing with color in small amounts. Select a large abstract art piece as the starting point to set a welcoming table. Then, use a few of its colors for dishes, serving pieces, placemats, napkins, flowers and even paint on a chair or two.
