Adjacent to the petit salon, this limestone terrace has been transformed into a Tuscan fantasy garden with rolling hills and trees of varying heights. The landscape not only adds a refreshing touch of green to an otherwise urban setting, but also creates a forced perspective for the viewer.
Using a wide assortment of container plantings, comfortable patio furniture and architectural features to enhance this small space, K&D Landscape Management created a lovely outdoor grilling area and garden for city homeowners. Color, texture and a potpourri of plants produce a lovely, inviting and serene design.
Even on an open terrace in a city setting, it’s possible to create a feeling of intimacy. Here, designer Magdalena Keck used perimeter plantings — a combination of evergreens and climbers in simple wood boxes — to soften the edges of the space and block exterior views. “We chose glass and steel for the furnishings to echo the city structures,” she says, “and to connect the inside of the apartment with the urban landscape outside.”
