Backlighting plays a crucial role in modernizing classic elements of this open floor plan kitchen. It's used in the quartz countertops and backsplash, as well as above the stainless steel range hood to highlight traditional moldings.
A small kitchen requires a combination of task and atmospheric lighting. To counteract the bluish cast of fluorescent lighting and add drama, install pendant lights in the eating area, incandescent lighting underneath upper cabinets and incandescent spot lighting above cabinetry. Lighting can also be installed under base cabinetry so it shines down onto the toe plate.
If you like your cabinets but want a bit more pizzazz, put a spotlight on them with lighting. Designer Judith Wright Sentz used LED ribbon lights inside and low voltage lights underneath. Not only does this showcase the beautiful leaded glass doors and items on display, it also provides additional functional light for the kitchen. Sentz says the kitchen, which was a 2016 National Kitchen + Bath Association Design Competition winner, was once very dark, so she took care to add as much light to the space as possible.
What was a dark cramped part of the kitchen, is now a bright open airy place. The kitchen wall is gone and the bright colors of the cabinets help light up the room, as well as the additional light from the dining room area. As seen on HGTV's "Cousins Undercover."
This galley kitchen maximizes its space by incorporating wall and under-counter wood cabinets and drawers, which provide storage space. The kitchen also features stainless steel appliances, small pendant lights and a wall-mounted television.
The addition of glass cabinetry on either side of the existing small window provides the illusion of a larger window with a better flow of light. Beautiful soapstone countertops and state-of-the-art appliances embellish this kitchen with a timeless ambiance filled with modern conveniences.
Sleek black countertops and a dark tile backsplash provide contrast against the light wood cabinets in this contemporary kitchen. A row of barstools lines the kitchen island, creating a space for casual dining.
Soft gray-blue cabinetry surrounds this spacious kitchen with solid white countertops. A white farmhouse sink blends seamlessly with the white counters while blue kitchen island has a black granite countertop to add contrast to the space.
