The kitchen in this Oregon vineyard estate home turns into a public tasting room on weekends. To allow for privacy when desired, and openness when needed, a drop-down screen was installed to use during "wine tasting" hours to partition off the kitchen. When the homeowners want a more open flow, the screen retracts into the ceiling, a great idea for any home with an open kitchen that is sometimes better left unseen.
This open plan kitchen features light wood cabinets paired with black countertops. Metal track lighting hangs above the kitchen island, while brown leather stools provide a spot for casual dining. Neutral tiles line the floors.
Black cabinets can add to visually compress the size of a space -- but not as used here. Since white cabinets are used on top, there's a balance of light and dark. Lovely windows and pale wood floors also add to the sense of brightness in the space.
A stone fireplace surround adds a rough contrast to the smooth surfaces in this contemporary kitchen design. An L-shaped woodgrain island is lined with white bar chairs for an eat-in space. A trio of circle pendant lights hangs above adding light to the recessed lighting and decorative light fixture in the connecting dining room.
A massive solid white oak kitchen island is topped with a 12-foot seamless slab of honed Calacatta Caldia marble in this transitional kitchen. Four large industrial-style pendant lights hang above the island.
Sleek brown and white cabinets set the scene for the contemporary kitchen. A retro-style tile backsplash adds a graphic element to the space, while a large kitchen island with light blue pendant lighting provides plenty of space for family gatherings.
