When specifying upholstery for a beachfront house belonging to an active family, designers Betsy Burnham and Max Humphrey of Burnham Design opted to cover all the furniture in indoor-outdoor fabric. "Every piece is done in Sunbrella fabric — even the pillows and the custom area rug underneath. Outdoor fabric was the perfect choice for this room, which is "command central" for TV-watching and game playing.” And, they note, “In terms of the furniture plan, sometimes it’s dramatic to do fewer pieces and keep the scale large of each and bold; that’s the case here. We selected the largest sectional we could fit in the space and made sure it was super deep and comfy. We paired it with a large upholstered ottoman, which serves double duty as a coffee table and great place for everyone to kick up their feet.”
Create a beautiful piece of indoor or outdoor decor with a piece of plywood, a pile of sticks and some wood glue. Cut the plywood into a roughly pumpkin shape. Use wood glue to completely cover the plywood with rows of sticks. It's ok if the sticks hang over the edge of the wood a bit. Place weights on the sticks and let the glue dry for at least 24 hours. Trim the edges of the sticks and sand if necessary to create your refined pumpkin shape. Add a fabric leaf and display your pumpkin in your garden, beside your front door, or hang it on the living room wall.
Brown marmorated stink bug has been in the United States 20 years, and in that time it’s spread throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Upper Midwest and along the West Coast. Stink bugs attack many home garden crops, including beans, corn, tomatoes peppers, apples and raspberries. Their feeding wounds fruits and veggies, resulting in corky spots that are inedible. Stink bugs spend winter inside, invading home voids and attics. With their stinky personalities, these bugs stir up drama indoors when they emerge from hiding in hordes, usually in winter. In the garden, knock stink bugs into soapy water to kill them. Indoors, the same method works, or you can try vacuuming up the stinkers (which might make your vac stink). Another indoor option is using a dry-mop cleaning tool (think Swiffer-type) that you cover with duct tape, sticky side out. That device gives you reach to grab stink bugs climbing curtains, walls and ceilings.
You wouldn't necessarily think this Atlanta suburb would be home to a vibrant, international community. A visit to Avalon for lunch one day led to the happy sighting of an East Indian wedding in progress, complete with horses and colorful attire and a musical promenade down its wide avenues. No better expression of that global vibe is the Avalon outpost of one of Atlanta's most beloved Persian restaurant's Rumi's Kitchen. This beautifully designed space offers indoor and outdoor seating and the kind of satisfying Mediterranean cuisine you'll want to hit more than once during your visit. Craft cocktails (the Persian Sunset with bourbon and apricot jam is a wonderful combination of Southern and Middle Eastern flavors) are an unexpected pleasure at Rumi's, but you won't want to stop there: lamb sliders, a labne appetizer and dolme (stuffed grape leaves) are great starters before you transition into the main event: some of the most succulent slow-cooked grilled meat kabobs, each served with a different saffron or lentil and raisin or orange zest and pistacho rice.

A caramel-poached golden beet salad with goat cheese mousse illustrates Green's desire to blend haute cuisine flavors and ingredients with delicious accessibility. Cocktails and craft beer offerings are imaginative and often feature local distilleries like Old Fourth Distillery and ASW as well as Jekyll Brewery, Terrapin and Hapeville's own Arches Brewery so diners can sample some locavore flavor.
