Artful details abound in Holley Jaakkola's historic Savannah home including a concrete squirrel that most would place in the garden but Jaakkola perches on her marble kitchen sink. Inspired, unexpected details like this give the home its strong sense of style and personality.
The Leitao house is full of wonderful details. Every opportunity to tell a cultural story at home has been found as with this ebony banister, original to the space. Kenza and Julio added a personal touch by turning an intricately detailed piece of art into a unique pommel.
This media room includes clever details that enhance the entertainment experience. “We installed risers to give it a genuine movie theater feel that are actually lighted on the stair steps,” says designer Tiffany Brooks.
The detached garage includes a bay designed for parking a golf cart, which locals in the gated communities on Hilton Head Island use to get around the area. “They don’t really drive their car from house-to-house, they drive their golf cart,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.
Under the desk sits a large cotton and wool upcycled patchwork rug made from old and used handmade traditional Anatolian carpets with different shades like raspberry, blue, brown and gray. Two retro faux-fur pink accent chairs with metal legs for visitors at the desk coordinate with the room’s blush ceiling.
The overall design for the updated room included a mix of dark blues, texture, midcentury-modern lines and masculine touches. These elements were brought in through accessories including white ceramic sculpture, coral and plaid pillar candles.
