Doing laundry is ever so much more exciting when you get to come into the laundry room via a hidden entrance. Turn these pantry shelves around and step inside. The pantry itself features hand-scraped shelves and a mahogany butcher block countertop.
Floor to ceiling windows offer a view of the sunny patio from the spacious walk-in shower in this contemporary bathroom. The windows extend to a glass door that offers an entrance to the private door space. A metal lantern hangs from the ceiling for a formal touch.
In the master bedroom, the wall on which the bed rests is covered in a gorgeous, metallic silver grass cloth that conceals the hidden door to the closet. Above the mirrored, four-poster bed, a brass chain link chandelier makes a bold statement, while rich texture was added with black faux fur pillow shams and blanket at the food of the bed. To personalize the space even further, designers had a modern, monogram printed on metallic linen.
On one end of the space, a set of French doors open out onto a private balcony, extending the girl's space for relaxing and entertaining. A long bench sofa gives the girls plenty of seating on the inside, but access to the balcony gives them the option to enjoy the lovely weather.
This hidden door bookcase leads from an office to the guest quarters in a private home in Alameda, Calif. Designed by Mark Dutka of InHouse Design Studio, it’s made of rift oak with a natural finish, and is just one part of a highly complex design which covers every inch of the room’s walls. Just off the kitchen, Chip and Joanna added a locker style mudroom. With custom lockers for each of the family members, coats, backpacks and shoes have a clear place to go.
