A modern staircase invites traffic to flow from the first to second floor in the entryway of HGTV Green Home 2011. An oversized bureau at the base of the stairs accommodates storage of outerwear or mail.
This multi-purpose "do room" in HGTV Green Home 2011 includes a casual-chic seating area with two slipper chairs, upholstered in classic houndstooth print. They sit atop a carpet-square rug and a Grecian key fabric throw pillows rests on each chair. A natural wood lamp with iron stud accents and linen shade provides additional light on overcast days. A barn door, constructed of beetle-kill pine wood, separates the room from the first floor.
In keeping with this home’s prairie style, plants and shrubs that complement the vertical design were chosen to landscape the front of this home. Large brown planters hold tall tall trees leading up to the front door.
Contemporary-style sofas, upholstered in durable Sunbrella fabric, feature aluminum frames and synthetic wicker bases — both recyclable. Two cube-shaped, industrial-style coffee tables were handcrafted from sustainable wood by carpenter David Brown. The yellow chairs provide a nice contrast against the black and white patterned pillows and add pops of color against the brick floor and accent landscaping wall.
A craft cubicle features a retractable 3 x 3-foot tabletop and 3 x 3-foot mobile island topped with stainless steel formica. A cork bulletin board provides space to tack notes; a brushed-nickel task lamp twists, pivots and bends to spotlight projects.
Black cabinets, gray countertops and slender pendant lights give the HGTV Green Home 2011 kitchen a sleek, polished feel. A yellow island and mosaic tile backsplash add a splash of color to the open kitchen.
This modern living room is accented with metallic fixtures, a soft gray-and-yellow color palette and natural wood accents. The two pieces of artwork above the fireplace slide out to reveal the hidden TV.
The front door, crafted from hemlock planks reclaimed from the interior of a 150-year-old home, complements the natural pine flooring and yellow birch panel ceiling in the HGTV Dream Home 2011. A white pendant light illuminates the space while black wood furniture and large accessories anchor the room. A gray floral patterned throw rug greets visitors to the home.
Stainless steel mosaic tile is paired with chrome fixtures for a modern, sexy look in the second-floor powder room at HGTV Green Home 2011. Pen and ink drawings by Lamecia Landrum pop against the bold green walls.
