Open to the great room, the HGTV Smart Home 2014 kitchen is designed with bold cabinetry, clever storage and a wooden island. A brilliant blue and white color scheme keeps the eye entertained. A unique industrial lighting feature adds visual interest to the space while state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances lend style and function to this hard-working room.
Honed marble is prone to stains, so HGTV's Kitchen Cousins created a custom wood chopping block out of 100-year-old flooring salvaged from homes around the area. A burned-on Kitchen Cousins logo adds a custom touch.
The backyard of the HGTV Dream Home 2014 blends seamlessly with the natural wooded elements common in Truckee, Calif., minutes away from Lake Tahoe. The stone exterior and large picture windows connect the home with nature.
To make this charming kitchen as functional as possible, interior designer Linda Woodrum opted for a triangle-style workspace. “When I think of smart design, I think of wisely designing a home that functions well on a high level, so that’s what Kelly Mockingbird, the design coordinator, and I tried to do through this whole process,” explains Linda. “It works well. Everything is in that small triangle, and it’s just very usable and functional.”
A modern staircase invites traffic to flow from the first to second floor in the entryway of HGTV Green Home 2011. An oversized bureau at the base of the stairs accommodates storage of outerwear or mail.
