The sleek, freestanding tub in this contemporary master bath is washed in a palette of soft grays and whites. Marble floor tile is laid in a herringbone pattern for visual interest, while white subway tile on the walls is classic and clean. Purple accents pop in the neutral space.
This contemporary gray and white kitchen features a custom island welded from tubular steel then powder-coated in a charcoal finish. A herringbone geometric backsplash pattern compliments the gray cabinetry and metallic accents in the room. A simple arrangement of white roses brings softness to the space.
The white, plank board vaulted accentuates the open and spacious design of this kitchen. A large island is topped with marble countertop and lined with red-brown leather bar chairs. A stainless steel cabinet brings a unique element to the room and matches the kitchen appliances. A herringbone hardwood floor brings an element of warmth to finish the bright room design.
With vertical shiplap cladding the walls and sunlight pouring in the through the skylights the space ran the risk of feeling cold and sterile but aged wood floors set in a herringbone pattern remedied the situation. The reclaimed wood was salvaged from a 100- year old factory by a company called Authentic Reclaimed located in Georgia and add an old-world charm to the flexible studio.
Once Jillian removed the fireplace and wall separating the kitchen from the rest of the house, she added five feet to the kitchen. She then added tons of extra cabinet space for storage. The kitchen island and countertops give the family lots of prep space. The herringbone design on the backsplash of Calcutta marble makes the kitchen stand out.
A white, brown and gray modern farmhouse style sitting room and kitchen. A white couch, concrete table, gray and metallic arm chairs, white and gray rug, a pair of marble and wooden tables and white lamp fill the sitting room. Shiplap adorned with herringbone mirrors decorate the wall next to a wooden table with chairs. A marble island centers the kitchen with a trio of glass pendant lights.
The gray and white color palette in this contemporary master bath gives the room a clean, airy feeling. White marble surrounds the shower, and floor tile is laid in a tight herringbone pattern for added interest.
As seen on HGTV's Flipping the Block, husband and wife team John and Whitney Spinks created a midcentury modern retreat in their master bedroom in Glendale, Calif. They chose a bright white paint and then stenciled a herringbone pattern in graduated shades of aquamarine on two walls. Yellow chevron curtains provide contrast and additional pattern.
When redoing a fireplace, you can get a sophisticated look at a lower cost. For the hearth, Terracotta Design Build used 12-by-12 porcelain tile in a dark color that looks like slate, but was more affordable. They cut the tile into little 3- by-12s and installed it in a herringbone pattern. "That’s a great way to get what really is a high-end look and finsh for hardly any cost," says architect and interior designer Ili Hidalgo-Nilsson.
To add warmth to the white kitchen, designers added White Oak detail around the space's upper cabinet. This addition plays nicely off the White Oak flooring. Subtle texture throughout the space, in details such as the white herringbone tile backsplash and the gray and black veining in the quartzite countertop, kept the space feeling light and airy, while contrast was used sparingly and the Turkish Kilim rug adds pattern and a playful, cheery style to the otherwise neutral color scheme.
This spa-like bathroom shows its contemporary edge beginning with the long, sleek vanity Pure Vanity Design Interiors selected as a focal point for the room. The dark wood of the cabinetry harmonizes with the brown tones of the herringbone-patterned tile floor, while working with the lighter tones used for the rest of the room. Especially lovely is the half wall of light gray marble that wraps around the space and the free-standing, contemporary tub located adjacent to the vanity. The design here is simple, straightforward and functional for users.
In the master bathroom, designers created an oasis with a unique bathtub as the centerpiece of the showcase. Above it, a contemporary chandelier adds light on cloudy days and at night, while geometric prints on the wall add color to the space. The large picture window lets in plenty of natural light that makes the area feel warm and bright. This light is mirrored in the neutral wall color and the gray and white tile floor that was laid in a herringbone pattern to create a bit more texture in the space.
