HGTV Design Star contestant Mark Diaz designed and built custom headboards despite warnings from his mentor David Bromstad about the time limit. The judges love the idea of the built-ins because they add division and privacy to the powder blue space, but they immediately notice that Diaz ran out of time and the headboards are unfinished.
The idea for this funky wall was a collaborative effort from the HGTV Smart Home 2014 design team. "We wanted to really go crazy behind the headboard," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. Painting boards in complementary hues highlights the bed and creates an eye-catching focal point.
