As rough-hewn and industrial as some loft spaces can be, there’s still ample opportunity to introduce spaces rich in refined style, as designer Hannah Crowell did in this eclectic dining room. “This was a new build that I wanted to give depth and character, so I chose a charcoal grey that pulled a slight bit of purple. I wanted to mix modern pieces (the Wegner chairs) with a farm table and Bryan Nash Gill prints. The Patterson Flynn and Martin rug was custom and took us 6 months to make but it pulled everything together perfectly.”
Outfitting a small room in white and reflective surfaces is a common designer strategy to lend the illusion of more space. But in this tight family bath, designer Hannah Dee of Hannah Dee Interiors used a splash of soft blue tile in another clever technique: “The accent wall brings your eye to the back of the room, broadening and lengthening the space—visually—making it feel much bigger than it really is.”
Black Panther's production designer Hannah Beachler also worked on Moonlight and Beyoncé’s Lemonade video. Some have also called Beachler's Lemonade video Afrofuturist for the way it incorporates references to African Yoruba goddesses into the action.
