Unfortunately, the condition of the original stairs was such that the stairs themselves could not be repaired, but the original configuration was kept intact and the original curved handrail was able to be salvaged. The new iron railing was "built around" the original banister.
Dark polished wood steps match the handrail leading down this twisting staircase. A diamond shaped pendant light hangs above to brighten the space and fill the high ceiling. A striped runner adds vivid color to the design while framed artwork and mounted trinkets decorate the white wall space.

Oliver Hospitality principal Philip Welker calls the Hotel Clermont's staircase one of the features of the hotel he is most proud of. "We were able to find a fire code solution that allowed the staircase arches to be re-opened on each floor, as it was originally. And the restoration of the terrazzo steps, plaster walls, and wood handrail feels exceptional," says Welker.

This custom project was built as the clients' "forever home." The concrete was formed to give it a unique detail, and there are two integrated planters along the way up as well. Inside, the home offers a three-stop elevator, two-sided fireplace, 26' exposed steel I-beam, spa-like master bath and hand fabricated custom perforated steel handrails.
When the homeowners went to renovate their 1980s home, they knew they wanted a sophisticated style that was a little more casual and up-to-date, so designers transformed the outdated library into a beautiful, contemporary-chic great room for the family. Designers worked with a local wood company to refinish the entire space, stripping the original stain and bleaching the wood to achieve a stylish "greige" stain on the walls and ceiling beams. To maintain the room's grand feel, designer chose to keep and update the gallery, which also adds height to the room. Finally, the marble clad and antique mirror fireplace surround helps to break up the wood paneled walls and the home's original handrail, comprised of brass and iron, was modified to meet modern safety codes and standards.
