Caribbean blues and greens brighten up this cheery kitchen with its dark wood island and informal dining area. Glass vases and a glass tile backsplash behind the stove reflect the sun and add dimension to the space.
To add color to the updated, yet still authentic feeling kitchen and dining room spaces, designers on America's Most Desperate Kitchens continued the mint green color from the kitchen into the dining room. The mint green of the refrigerator and the KitchenAid reflect flecks of mint green in the custom, large print tile floor. The same accent color enters the dining room with the vintage, mint green pendant light.
Designer Vanessa DeLeon used plush fabrics and deep gray accent pieces to put an elegant spin on this complete home remodel. The eclectic teal and black dining room features an over-dyed turquoise rug from Creative Touch in Secaucus, N.J., while the table hails from Brooklyn-based artisan woodworker Palo Samko. The neutral walls are complemented by a faux-painted black and gray ceiling and black leather chairs around a rustic hardwood dining table with mismatched candle holders and two brass pendant lights.

This lovely, traditional kitchen is painted with a light green to create a bright, happy look in the room. Open floor space between the living room and dining room keep the spaces separate while still feeling connected in the open floor plan. A green leather sofa compliments the sage green velvet cushioning of the dining chairs. An animal hide rug and upholstered chairs bring unique texture to the living room. Above the dining table, a petaled light fixture creates a flower shape on the ceiling.
In a large, open interior — and this is especially important when the space has soaring ceilings, as this one does — it’s essential to choose furnishings and details that fit the large scale of the room. Says stylist Sophie Gunnersen of Studio Stamp: “All the pieces in the room are rather big and bold, and everything has a purpose. The custom-made dining table sits at bar height and it is large and chunky. The black AGA cooker is really the key piece in the space — it adds ambience and attracts most people with its warmth. The vertical bookshelf along with the softer green tiles divide the room.”
A mod white pendant light from Ikea creates cool shadow play on the citron green ceiling of this fun, contemporary playroom. The room serves as a study and hangout for young adults, with fun fabrics, efficient storage and plenty of space to play, work and relax.
Stylish white cabinets with a matching range hood line the wall in the open design of this eat-in kitchen. A decorative neutral and brown tile backsplash matches the hues in the copper-colored marble countertops. The water color look on the green, yellow and blue pendant lights adds life and color to the space.
Natural wood beams frame the entrance to this large window nook. A tufted olive green cushion gives height to the space, finished with a decorative mix of patterned throw pillows complimenting the neutral tones of the room. A star pendant light adds a fun, contemporary element to the space.
To achieve a clean, sophisticated look, this dining room features a coordinating dining table and sideboard. The light fixture is actually three individual pendent lights grouped together to create a new chandelier that makes a stunning statement.
