An ornate chandelier with varying green miniature lampshades serves as the focal point in this white dining space. Green and white striped curtains pop against white walls and plantation shutters while a black oriental rug grounds the bright room. A white square dining table with eight chairs provides lots of seating in this spacious dining area.
For the dining room challenge on HGTV Design Star season 5, Emily Henderson and Michael Moeller design a space completely out of repurposed furnishings. They paint the ceiling a bright green to create an "intentional explosion" of color, and for her project, Emily attaches plastic flowers to a chandelier and paints the entire piece a crisp white.
In the dining room, the walls and furniture are neutral; visual interest is brought in via richly colored accents like the green curtains and chair seats and the blue rug. It's a good way to try out bold colors without overwhelming the space.
The homeowners had to move into this house suddenly after being displaced by floods in Houston. They had a few family antiques and a lot of donated items. The designers created a cheerful space using fun patterns and vibrant color to unify the furnishings and fill the home with personality.
HGTV Design Star judge Genevieve Gorder says, "Compositionally, I think the room is scaled appropriately — there's room to move, I know what I'm supposed to do in here and the asymmetry is working organically for me."
This country living room area features a white sectional sofa centered around a rustic square coffee table. The space also includes floor-length green curtains and a dark wooden console table underneath a large painting of a barn.
Ahhh... what a great place to relax! This living space features a lovely brick fireplace, the central focus of the room. Green window treatments and plants and flowers in the room echo the outdoors, creating a natural feel. Put your feet up on the upholstered ottoman while watching TV or just chat and admire the art pieces in the room.
To spice up the decor, HGTV Star contestant Boris Eckey used a faux trellis paint pattern on one wall, hung custom artwork and added a classic extension dining table and unconventional seating, like bright yellow director's chairs. Now this Tuscan-style dining room feels like it's been part of the house forever.
The outdoor landscape is incorporated in this living area with carefully chosen natural elements, like house plants and an elegant lampshade pattern. Neutral sofas anchor the sitting area and green and white striped curtains frame a stunning view from the adjacent balcony.
Bright green walls are offset by a dark canopy bed, clean white bedding, and a detailed sideboard in this lovely master bedroom. The floral curtains, artwork, and pink accents add an additional touch of whimsy.
