These hand-felted bees are made with wool roving in black, gray, gold and white. You’ll need a felting needle and 26-gauge gold-tone wire to complete them. See The New Christmas Tree for details. Brown says this is a good project for felting beginners.
Designer Claire Paquin added a touch of whimsy and fun to this little girl's bedroom with pink accents and a little flower power. The white and gray canvas can handle the strong shade of hot pink in the pillows and floral arrangement, and the cute flowered knob on the white nightstand is a fanciful addition. Having just the accents carry the color allows for quick and inexpensive changes when needed.
A contemporary globe pendant with a cutout surface gets added interest from the splash of bright, Caribbean blue on its reverse side. Paired with blue chevron window treatments, the accents pop against the mostly neutral, gray-and-white surroundings. A white lacquer table and flashy metallic chairs complete the contemporary kitchen and breakfast nook.
Pendant lights hang down over an island with bar seating in this country kitchen. Glass door cabinets and provide dish storage around a patterned tile wall above the metallic stove. A strip of subway tile follows the white countertop around the walls of the kitchen. Wooden bar stools, gray herringbone flooring, and a black window frame above the sink add a few contrasting colors to the white decor.
Full of abundant detail, this cottage style kitchen offers a little of it all. Peek-a-boo cabinets with lighting draw the eye upwards to the captivating tray ceiling. From there, the black pendant lights brings you back down to the dark gray marble countertops that sit atop white detailed cabinets. The blue and white plate detail and homey patterened wallpaper makes this cottage vibe come to life.
I had initially planned to plant an all-white garden with just shades of silver, gray and white but quickly found I am incapable of that kind of discipline when it comes to a garden color palette. I have been instead been very happy to spin the color wheel and embrace every shade imaginable. My inspiration and ultimate garden goal is to create something close to the slightly wild, lush gardens that the British do so well.
Two-tone cabinets blend with sleek open shelving, keeping this kitchen feeling open and spacious. A neutral tile backsplash adds visual interest behind the kitchen sink while a dark tile backsplash behind the range hood emphasizes the stainless steel range. A large wood island with a gray granite countertop provides extra workspace, and a built-in sink creates a convenient meal prep area.
To add warmth to the white kitchen, designers added White Oak detail around the space's upper cabinet. This addition plays nicely off the White Oak flooring. Subtle texture throughout the space, in details such as the white herringbone tile backsplash and the gray and black veining in the quartzite countertop, kept the space feeling light and airy, while contrast was used sparingly and the Turkish Kilim rug adds pattern and a playful, cheery style to the otherwise neutral color scheme.
This multi-functional space perfectly fits the family perfectly. A comfy, gray sectional, upholstered ottoman and playful striped slipper chair create the TV viewing area, while brass étagères flank a coordinating TV console house metallic woven baskets that act as toy storage for the kiddos. Finally, a cream lacquered and brass desk was placed against the back of the chaise sectional where the homeowners can catch up on work while their kids watch a movie or play within eyesight.
This dining space, designed by Emily Henderson of HGTV's Secrets from a Stylist features an English Country design scheme that gives the room an all-over quaint, decidedly proper feel. The gray and white wallpaper adds a decorative accent to the wooden drop-leaf table, which includes two black dining chairs at either end. A design tip from Emily: "When it comes to designing your own home, don't over think it. Go out and take pictures. Visualize things, have fun, play around!"
Designer Kerrie Kelly's creative juices were flowing when she designed this ultra-cool living room in shades of yellow, gray and white. The room is reminiscent of a 1950's lounge, but with a slightly industrial flair, given the lighting fixtures, table and chairs and whitewashed brick accent wall. The space invites one to sit down, relax and have a cup of joe.
Soft blue-gray blue walls pair with a bold pink changing table and green wingback glider to create this adorable nursery for Laila Ali's little girl, Sydney. Custom wall decals surrounding baby's monogram were created to achieve the look of sophisticated paneling, and framed artwork featuring angels adds a sweet and personal touch.
An organic cotton duvet in a gray and white chevron pattern creates a soft cushion and stands in contrast to a red hand-blocked cotton pillow in the cozy guest bedroom of HGTV Green Home 2012. An exercise in symmetry, floor lamps with dramatic linen shades and inset wall shelves flank the bed.
This open-plan kitchen, living room and dining room allows for easy flow. A bay window dining alcove and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors allow for plenty of natural light. The dark hardwood floor contrasts the gray stone accent wall. Stylish glass and metal chandeliers on chains add points of visual interest. The room features both warm and cool tones, and plenty of textures, like the brown suede and velvet barstools, white marble countertops, and colorful patterned dining chairs.
A cozy sitting area with a neutral sofa and white wingback chairs is arranged around a simple black coffee table. Green, gray and navy accent pillows add color and texture to the space while retaining a sophisticated look. Black and white framed photos accessorize the wall space above the sofa for a personalized touch.
A favorite corner of the house is the the wine room, modeled after an old cellar resurrected with modern materials. Stainless steel chillers were installed into the patterned grey stone slabs to limit the refrigeration behind the glass doors. This keeps the homeowners from having to cool the entire room, making the space a cozy corner to comfortably enjoy a glass of wine. A conversation piece was added to the ceiling with the chandelier made of wine corks.
As seen on DIY Network's Rehab Addict, Nicole Curtis stripped and stained the white oak floor in the study, as well as cleaned and polished the marble fireplace surround. Nicole painted the walls a neutral gray in order to draw attention to the African mahogany fireplace, wall panels, molding and ceiling beams.
The goals for the kitchen were to open it up so that it felt larger and to incorporate functional storage space. Taking the upper cabinets to the ceiling helped make this space appear taller and fulfilled the storage request. The backsplash tile was blended with the cabinet color to further heighten the room, while the cabinetry was kept simple to complement the open concept. The overall style is contemporary yet rugged, incorporating natural materials and a grey-brown color scheme.
