Evenly spaced recessed can lights truly enhance the gold and metallic hues of this luxurious master bedroom. For additional lighting, four table lamps deliver focused task lighting around the bed and dressers. Plus, dark floor-to-ceiling draperies make it easy to shield the natural light from the window and quickly set the mood. "Think boutique hotel rooms with blackout curtains; augment with a myriad of light sources on dimmers, of course. It'll always feel like you're on vacation at home," says Jamie Laubhan-Oliver of D Home.

Black customized full-panel shutters and a Regency-style bookcase with a black wax finish add polish. The look is reinforced by a stenciled zebra rug and taffeta shower curtain.

This elegant yet inviting master bedroom is a treat for restful eyes, as designer Heather McManus dips her brush in tones of gold. The soft-hued area rug, ornate draperies and upholstered furnishings polish the more simple designs of the sleigh bed and nightstand. Nothing says old world magnificence like the hand-painted cathedral ceiling and two-tier chandelier of this elegant gathering room. Looking up, the room emits a feeling of Italian renaissance and splendor, while the furnishings and accessories deliver a traditional and comfortable spin on old world style. The most spectacular piece in the room is the 16th-century fireplace imported from Cyprus. Finally, a funky, gold end table adds a bit of functionality as well as a splash of color that helps to connect the living room space to the kitchen and dining areas, giving all of the common spaces a more cohesive design.
This traditional bedroom has a timeless look about it. The intricate headboard and footboard bring the feeling of the Victorian era to the space; however, the harshness of the Victorian style is softened by the wispy white linens that adorn the bed. A window to the left of the space allows tons of natural light to flow into the room, further softening the look of the space and reflecting off the white walls and antique silver picture frames and traditional gold lamp. The more contemporary additions of the canvas curtains and chair help to blend the Victorian style with one that is more updated, giving this space a timeless quality.
For a family home in Houston, the designers of Laura U Interior Design created a comfortable seating area just off the kitchen. The team used color and accessories to create a cohesive look throughout the wide open area. “While the majority of the color palette is neutral, we weave a lively turquoise through each space: pillows and an area rug in the family, bar stool frames in the kitchen, and a show-stopping chandelier in the breakfast space,” they explain. “The entire space is further unified through the window treatments which are a combination of Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades and custom drapery with a turquoise band on the leading edge. A cheerful yellow and just a dash of orange set off the color scheme while touches of gold and a natural wood (teak root table and driftwood at the island) add eclectic charm.”
