Open industrial-style shelves flank this small fireplace, providing storage and a place to display vibrant collectables in this contemporary living room. The room, formerly a garage, provides a sleek new place for entertaining and relaxing.
Striped walls lend a chic vibe to this living room, which was converted from a garage. A pair of floral chairs provide pattern and a nice contrast to the neutral low-profile sofa. An area rug defines the sitting area, while windows in the garage door allow plenty of natural light to flow through the room.
It’s hard to imagine now, but this charming living space was once an unassuming commercial garage. To make the most of the compact, 1,260-square-foot space (including an upstairs loft area), Frazier Associates minimized the number of walls within. Exposed brick walls and concrete flooring on the first floor were retained and a new staircase, crafted of reclaimed wood and metal railing, was designed for access to the second floor. "Providing more natural light was the biggest design challenge," say the designers. "A new recessed patio was designed behind the historic garage doors to allow for more light on the first floor, as well as to create a front entrance and a small exterior seating area."
New life and purpose are given to a garage after it was converted into a contemporary living room. A low-profile sofa and floral chair provide seating near a sleek gas fireplace, while bright accessories provide a pop of color in the neutral space.
The large, open design of this modern living room creates a beautiful, spacious look. A garage door opening to the outside adds to the airy feel and floods the room with natural light. A gray sectional pairs well with the white walls, gray room divider and wood flooring. Burgundy accent pieces add a pop of color and warmth to the room.
The home’s curb appeal was updated by installing a new entry door and sidelights; new windows, including an enlarged opening for the second-floor living room; new fiber cement siding for the upper level; and a new garage door.
A new walkway was added to the street instead of having to come up the driveway. Heavy trim around the entry, garage door and new living room windows helped balance the façade.
The rear side of a boxy, modern garage forms a unique platform for an outdoor living room. A modern fire pit and comfortable seating create a cozy spot to relax, and whimsical artwork mirrors the sky at night.
A large, comfy sitting area makes up the bulk of this garage's conversion to swanky living space. The living room features a sitting area defined by a cream area rug and seating, while bar stools at a nearby counter provide additional seating and a place to sit and eat.
"This garage remodel was designed for a UCLA professor who wanted a stylish home office," says Ron Cohen, CEO of Pearl Remodeling. "Because of zoning restrictions at the time of the remodel, we could not legally convert the garage into a living space, so we kept the garage door operational and updated the interior so it could still be enjoyed as a workspace. We installed new drywall on all walls and ceiling, and light-colored flooring and paint to brighten up the room. Open shelving with complementary decor give this study a modern touch with lots of room to personalize the space."
This large open living room is bright and spacious with garage door access to the outside, white walls and smooth hardwood floors. A burgundy chair in the corner adds a spot of color against the modern gray entertainment center with cutout shelving.
