SPG Architects’ Casa Torcida, located in the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica, uses rich woods and a soft palette in the bathroom, reflecting the abundant flora and fauna native to the property. A frosted glass divider separates the toilet from the rest of the space, which features a jetted tub and an open wood vanity with double sinks. The house is completely “off the grid,” using a water-reclamation system to retain rainwater for use throughout the house. In addition, the house has a solar hot water system, which provides hot water for most of the year.
There's an air of elegance in this gorgeous contemporary dining room. The pleasing look and texture of the frosted glass allows the room to be private or open. Teal and white patterned chairs are seated around the dark wood dining table lit by natural light from the windows and a drum chandelier hanging above.
For a large space, a room divider can cleverly and stylishly break up the space. This metal and glass one features a mix of textured glass bricks and open spaces, becoming a work of art in its own right.
"The divider in this dining room was original to the midcentury home, so I restored the tracking system and counter before backlighting the burlap panels. The amber glow filters through the panels mimicking candlelight, while the counter provides the perfect spot for sitting and serving," says Shannon Baird, designer and owner of SBaird Design, Portland, Oregon.
Opaque glass and steel walls divide the space without blocking any of the natural light streaming into the contemporary loft. The glass walls offer privacy without taking away any of the openness of the space. The exposed brick walls and oak flooring give the space a warm, organic feel.
An open gray stone floor gives an industrial influence to this spacious dining area at the foot of the stairs. Black chairs are a strong contrast to the white table, but they blend well with the room through the gray touches. A marbled look on the stairs creates an attractive differentiation from the floor.
A beautiful finish on the gray wall of this shower is the perfect effect to keep from overpowering the room with a solid color. Glass walls create a room division to separate the shower space from the rest of the bathroom. A decorative blue tile pillar supports the rainwater shower head and temperature knobs. A floating bench adds additional storage and a seating option.
