Chris mixed modern with traditional to create a transitional design style. He paired a tailored, button-tufted, 1960s-style sofa with an ovular, bronze and glass coffee table that has more traditional lines. For rustic, masculine texture, Chris opted for end tables made of driftwood with glass tops. A pair of mid-century modern table lamps added a touch of the unexpected to the space. Altogether the furniture arrangement came to slightly over $2000. After searching for art, Chris couldn't find anything he connected with and instead had a professional photographer shoot his collectible Cutlass convertible, and then had it framed as fine art.
Soon after purchasing their home, the homeowners were ready to redesign the entertaining hub of the home. A custom-designed drop ceiling with bubble pendant chandelier defines the new dining room, which pairs a chic woodgrain table with sleek black chairs. Anchored at the end of the living space is the wet bar and frameless glass wine room, each outlined with bookmatched wood walls and ceilings. The end result is a series of spaces that feature the homeowners' sophisticated style and taste.
In the living room of this Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna created a masculine, rustic design for the family to enjoy. A dark leather sofa and rawhide chairs provide seating in the space, while a metal and glass coffee table provides a bit of modern flair to the space. A live edge mantel piece mounted on a stone fireplace complements the rustic design, while a log end table and vintage sepia photograph help to complete the space.
A bright orange floor cushion and navy throw pillows add bold color to the calm, neutral setting. A smooth marble tile floor is contrasted with a rough tile fire pit and bright blue top. Curved brown wicker sofas are complete with table space on each end. A glass retaining wall reflects the warm glow of the fire.
This beautiful contemporary dining area can be open to the living room and the kitchen, or striped curtain dividers can slide closed for a private dining room. A lit black china cabinet with glass doors provides a beautiful display at the end of a black and white zigzag rug. Turquoise chairs sit at a wooden dining table, and a gold chandelier hangs from the blue ceiling above.
A large asian cabinet breaks up the white space of the wall and adds height and color to this stylish dining room design. The dark dining tabletop matches the neutral and black stone floor. White dining chairs pop against the dark details and tie in the white walls. Larger end chairs with tall backs give dimension to the table. A glass bulb chandelier finishes the fashionable design.
For a family with three young children, access and durability were key kitchen design considerations for designer Vanessa DeLeon. After considering a traditional island with counter-height seating, she opted for a more manageable, easier-access arrangement: a 36"-high island with a built-in banquette and stylish, generously sized dining table by End Grain Furniture and Design featuring a reclaimed top and glass overlay.
Less is more a lot of times, and this is a prime example. The modern shape of a lounge chair and ottoman need no more than a sexy end table to hold their own in the corner of this master bedroom. The patterned carpet and soft blue-grey tones in the room are a reflection of the Atlantic waters swirling just outside the sliding glass doors.
Designer Linda Woodrum used simple yet bold artwork in HGTV Dream Home 2014's master bedroom entryway to add a contemporary look to the room. In a home defined by its connection to the outdoors, the small end table is inspired by nature's modern side. Narrow strips of steel are cut in a frame design that echoes the shape of individual tree branches, and the top is made with beveled glass.
This revitalized master bedroom has been given new life. Once a drab space, Joanna added a gray accent wall to give the space texture. Light, airy curtains accentuate the natural light that pours into the space through the large sliding glass doors, softening the space. New end tables and lamps, a new rug and contemporary art put the finishing touches on this elegant Fixer Upper.
