Artwork is a focal point in this Windy City game room. The owners’ collection of posters from the New Orleans jazz festival –– framed and displayed on every wall –– served as colorful inspiration for the room’s eclectic design.
Luxurious layers and textures can be seen in this elegant master bedroom. A gorgeous starburst pendant light hangs above the brass framed poster bed with lots of patterned throw pillows and a red velvet sofa for seating.
Color was the driving force behind the remodel of this kitchen. The framed poster on the wall was the point of inspiration for the bright blue and orange infusion; the existing white banquette table, cabinets and appliances provided the perfect backdrop.
A black leather armchair with nailhead trim is a bold, eye-catching piece in this eclectic sitting area. A smooth stone table features a mixture of table decor that adds vibrant color to the space. A large framed poster adorns the exposed brick accent wall, completing the eclectic feel of the room.
A textured carpet runner gives a burlap look to the top of these stairs for a subtle southern influence in the design. White newel posts create an entrance frame then white balusters and a deep wood hand rail line the rest of the design. Family photos and mounted candle displays add personality and color to the white wall space.
A tray ceiling painted with light and dark shades of gray and trimmed in white creates dimension over this stylish bedroom design. A wooden bed frame features tall pyramid posts, and the bed linens combine a traditional white cover with a faux fur accent throw and decorative pillows. A metallic sunburst draws light to the wall to finish the look.
A framed ski poster, displayed at the entrance to this ski-style dorm, hints at the room's color palette. White cedar logs and a pine ceiling add rustic elements without feeling too lodge-y, making this area seem like a luxury at-home resort. Eight beds dressed in quilted covers and fun throw pillows ensure there's room for the whole family.
A major challenge for this design project was the couple's distinct design sensibilities — the husband is a fan of midcentury modern design, while the wife longed to add traditional touches of warmth and character to the space. Here, a vintage, midcentury Vistosi ceiling fixture and framed advertising poster speak to the husband's design style, while the blue velvet settee and roll-arm chaise add a traditional touch. Bold, bright fabrics on the upholstered pieces bring vigor to the neutral backdrop of the walls and rug.
