In this contemporary living room, white walls serve as a canvas for pink pillows and a light blue blanket. When paired with a golden floor lamp and other metallic accents, these items achieve a color scheme reminiscent of a sunset on the beach.
This super comfy, contemporary living room features white furniture against white walls for a fresh and clean look. Teal pillows add a bright pop of color that play nicely off white, slip covered sofas. Hard wood floors and a wood coffee table bring warmth and texture into the sunny space.
Vibrant green walls, an upholstered houndstooth ottoman and bright sofa pillows add a lively feeling to this living room by designer Stephanie Sabbe. An adjustable floor lamp illuminates a bookshelf area concealed by antique white French doors.
This art-studio-inspired bedroom is defined by the high industrial ceiling. A colorful bust sculpture, dark red headboard and gold and red accent pillows add pops of color to the white elements in the space. A modern white pendant light and floor lamp brighten the concrete interior.
Keep in mind that your furnishings should be in proportion not only to the actual size of the space but also to the perceived size — which can be affected by such elements as paint color or extensive areas of glass. In this project, the latter came into play. “The floor-to-ceiling windows make this small space feel larger, and to keep that open feeling the furniture needed to be scaled appropriately,” says architect Leslie Arnold. “Choosing furniture that was open at the bottom — i.e. pieces that do not go all the way to the floor — ’enlarges’ the room by allowing the entire floor to be visually unbroken. The simple, solid colored upholstered furniture allows the brightly colored rug and wall art to be the main focus of the room.”
Keeping it light and airy, these floor-to-ceiling windows provide plenty of natural light in this simple white bedroom. The blue throw pillows and dark wood bed frame offer a break from the white and balance the look.
A contemporary arc floor lamp illuminates this transitional sitting area. A cozy blue armchair with playful pillows serves as the focal point of the space, while white built-in shelving provides practical storage.
This family room's open floor plan allows for easy transition between rooms, including the kitchen and entryway areas. A neutral sectional sofa creates a division between the spaces, while colorful accents, like the orange and yellow throw pillows, add a finishing touch.
"The peach hyacinth is all about a timid subtlety and gentle beauty that Casey mainly interprets through a treatment to simulate the look of watercolor applied to the bedroom walls. Her translation is successful," said HGTV Design Star judge Vern Yip. The striped blanket and upholstered headboard add darker blue complements to the walls, and the red throw pillows add a splash of accent color to this transitional bedroom.
