The goal of this project was to modernize the open plan living space, but in a thoughtful way that would respect the location and also provide the client, a young single bachelor, with a functional design. The narrow living room space was one of the biggest challenges in the space planning. By creating a wall hung entertainment unit and bookcase, with a large area rug and small cocktail tables, the narrow space was visually widened.
Lavish window treatments, intricate molding and an abundance of gilt decor outfit this room in quintessential French panache. A muted color palette with peach undertones proves to be the perfect backdrop for the layering of luxurious textiles and textures.
This music room features a baby grand piano and tufted black leather bench atop a luxurious white cow hide. An audience of two can sit in the taupe armchairs which feature nail head bordering, while a musician can choose either an electric guitar or piano with which to perform. Floor to ceiling white curtains, a maroon set of drawers, and gold wall art complete this look.
This spacious basement great room features traditional furniture, include a brown suede sofa and neutral striped armchair and ottoman. The exposed beam filing completes the look of the space, while the nearby fitness room and bar provide additional areas for entertainment.
This living room flows seamlessly into the dining room and kitchen in this open concept home, providing endless opportunities for entertaining family friends. A contemporary staircase leads upstairs, where an open hallway looks down onto the living room.
Designer Kerrie Kelly's creative juices were flowing when she designed this ultra-cool living room in shades of yellow, gray and white. The room is reminiscent of a 1950's lounge, but with a slightly industrial flair, given the lighting fixtures, table and chairs and whitewashed brick accent wall. The space invites one to sit down, relax and have a cup of joe.
The Houghtons' 4,000 square foot lakeside retreat on Lake Gaston in rural North Carolina offers a place for the family to work and play when not spending time at their home in Chapel Hill.
Inside, Heather Garrett Interior Design and the Houghtons determined that a fitness room took priority over a vacuous master bedroom suite, so Heather designated that area on plan to house a gym with a climbing wall. She then ditched the idea of a dining room, in favor of a deep upholstered niche and shuffleboard table open to the kitchen and family room.
