This traditional family room is designed for a young family. Ikat, paisley, faux leather and faux animal print fabrics are combined to bring excitement to the room while also making it kid-friendly with stain-resistant fabrics.
Working in the smallest space in the house, Carolyn Wilson and Elizabeth Boland of Design in a Day tore out an existing linen closet to create a second floor dressing room. Thibaut faux animal print wallpaper was applied to the walls, the ceiling was painted Farrow & Ball's Dayroom Yellow and a distinctive Abe Lincoln painting was hung to create a distinguished second floor foyer.
Thin-frame brass chairs with purple upholstery and animal print swivel chair surround an ivory faux shagreen coffee table. Black details are placed throughout the room to balance the weight of the piano.
Thin-frame dining chairs with faux leather upholstery in animal print balance a black distressed trestle-base table, defining the dining area in the open plan room. Custom navy velvet sofa and woven navy area rug define the family room area.
In this second-home Chicago high-rise pied-à-terre, rough wooden side tables and a rustic dining table paired with brilliant red faux-leather chairs create an inspired look in this combined living and dining room. The giraffe-print stools in the breakfast bar are custom designed, inspired by the homeowners’ love of their home state of Texas, animals and travels to Africa.
