NFL player Duane Brown and radio personality Devi Brown have visited many exotic places, yet their favorite place to be is at home with each other. With the help of designer Laura Umansky, the Browns brought a fresh look to their newly renovated Texas home – with a touch of worldly style inspired by their travels. “I would see things I liked on Pinterest and Houzz and bring them to Laura so that she could see examples of my taste,” Devi says.
The previous kitchen in the couple's home was small and closed in with very little countertop or cabinet space. Brio Interior Design's renovations, though, have replaced the outdated stock cabinets and formica countertops with modern, custom cabinets and an elegant butcher block countertop. One set of lower cabinets extends across the exterior wall, while another set was created across the open kitchen to provide plenty of storage and counter space. The lower cabinets are painted black in warm contrast with the white subway tile walls and white upper cabinets. Details such as the beautiful pink flower and brass fixtures bring an exotic feel to the space.
Once a raw, industrial space, designers brought in glitzy design details to create a unique residential space. First, they raised the ceilings from eight foot to nearly eleven, creating a more dramatic space. Then, they installed a luxurious black and white tile floor and complimentary copper pendant lights that became the focal point of the space. Finally, they brought in rich, leather furniture and installed a glamorous wet bar to the space.
Favorite feature: The lighting, which is a custom installation of multiple pendants sourced on Ebay, is definitely what catches most people's eye —it’s the conversation starter that gets all the compliments. That design element set against the truly amazing view of the Long Island Sound and the New York City skyline make for a stunning visual. The custom bar is also exceptional with its luxurious materials, from the antique mirror in the back to the exotic wood cabinetry and beautiful Saint Laurent marble on the counter.
