With their healthy, vegetarian lifestyle, this kitchen is truly put to work every day. The design features two islands: one island is reserved for seating and storage, while the other houses a prep sink and a very special butcher block pedestal that Lauren Levant designed especially for this project. Made from her sketch, a local woodworker created an original butcher block pedestal from a fallen local tree, with a removable chopping block set into it.
A dark wood desk doubles as a nightstand beside this white bed. A bedside lamp in the same color as the wall blends seamlessly with the wall, not detracting from the beautiful wood desk or adjacent headboard. An upholstered gray headboard softens the space and allows the white bedding to stand out in the space.
According to Vern Yip, it's important in New York to design rooms for more than one purpose. Consequently, the design for this living room includes a sleeper sofa that can serve its purpose for overnight guests, but blends well into the upscale, contemporary design of the room. The shades of gray in the furnishings commingle for a cohesive, restful stay.
Space for storing items was relocated to the upper wall cabinets by the range, and there is also plenty of additional storage within the islands. An arched overhang on both islands allows for plenty of seating, and two different colors of glazed cabinetry serve to visually delineate the islands from the perimeter cabinetry.
This galley kitchen features neutral stone walls paired with stainless steel appliances, including two dishwashers. Granite countertops are paired with brown wood and neutral painted cabinets, while colorful Mediterranean tiles cover the backsplash area.
Beveled subway tile covers the walls and even the ceiling of this white shower, while a fun mosaic adds color and interest on the floor. A rainforest shower head pairs with an adjustable, sliding bar shower head to give users the ultimate in function. Meanwhile, a marble-topped bench adds convenience.
High-gloss cabinetry, LED lighting and a neutral color palette create a sleek, contemporary look in this kitchen. Book-matched slabs of exotic granite were used to create a seamless-looking waterfall top on the main island.
For the bathroom of a new home in Westchester County, NY, architect Daniel Contelmo created an elegant vanity that is as rich in storage as it is in style. “It’s packed with various storage options, equally divided for the couple who shares the bath,” says Contelmo. Among the amenities are a built-in hamper, a linen closet, plenty of cabinets and drawers, lighted custom-framed mirrors and a central shelving area that offers display space and visually breaks the long limestone counter.
A large kitchen island provides a pop of color in this neutral, contemporary open-concept living space. Dual islands provide counter space for cooking, dining and other activities, and also take maximum advantage of the home's spacious footprint. White walls and clean lines give the space an uncluttered, airy feel.
The contemporary vanity in this urban master bathroom features dual vessel sinks and light wood cabinetry. A tile shower with recessed lighting and a glass door exudes a private, luxurious feel. The urban vibe is preserved with ductwork visible through mirrored partitions.
Dual islands offer loads of counter space for cooking, dining and other activities in this bright and open family kitchen. White cabinetry and white walls are interrupted by a bold tile backsplash that extends to the ceiling, creating a focal point in the mostly neutral space. The color is echoed on the base of the second island, emphasizing the room's spacious footprint.
This open kitchen is part of a great room that features a high ceiling with exposed beams. Two large gray islands with white marble countertops dominate the kitchen space while black marble countertops are used for the built-in cabinetry.
