For the guest bathroom, designers wanted a clean, bright space with some drama, so they started with white, shiplap walls, a durable, white marble countertop and white subway tile in the bathroom. Then, they added black floor tile and black faucets and accessories to create contrast and really make the space pop.
The crux of this dramatic penthouse design is set on contrast, as a black and white color palette anchors the space. To help connect the lounge space to the rest of the home's elegant design, designers replaced the apartment's standard doors with custom, heavy doors that were painted black. They also added black casings around each of the doors to create a uniform look throughout the enfilade.
The walls of this modern, gothic dining room are covered in raw steel, contrasting with neo-Baroque acrylic chairs by Acrila and a dramatic polycarbonite fixture by Zaha Hadid. This contrast of materials creates layers of depth in a high-rise condo that's filled with natural light.
In the bedroom, the home's neutral color palette gets a dramatic and moody twist with a black feature wall. The juxtaposition of black wall and white bedspread is mirrored in the patterned rug on the floor. Mud cloth patterned textiles, woven baskets and the repeated use of color, pattern and texture throughout lends cohesion and a unique, personal flair to this home.
Various prints are framed and matted in white, creating an artful display that contrasts the deep black walls in this dramatic sitting room. A chair upholstered in a bold black and white damask fabric adds a touch of whimsy to the space.
Woods and light stone finishes create dynamic contrast in this great room with soaring proportions. A stone fireplace extends to the cathedral-height ceiling, adding drama and tying in with a stone surround that connects the living room and kitchen. A dark-stained lintel above the opening adds architectural interest and structural stability.
